PageRank is all about quality, not quantity. But don't worry about PR so much...there are lots of other factors that are important as well.

Quality is right and is best for search engine traffic, but I think you have to have higher page rank backlinks to raise PR?

If website follows the Google guidelines then their is possibility of getting good PR and backlinks on high PR websites are also helpful.

But I think that the visibility of website in search engine result pages are more important then PR by targeted keywords.

I have stopped looking at PR it does not seem to have a massive effect on SERPS.

I would rather have more visitors than more green pixels, but that is just me.

Yep. PageRank has very little meaning these days - it's been so widely abused that they've decreased the importance of it in calculating SERPs greatly.

I think the problem is that PR changes alot and frequently but google only updates the toolbar a few times a year, just depends of you are lucky enough to be ranking well at the time of the update.

I focus on building for SERPS, not for PR. If you do that you can get more traffic, it is Traffic that pays the bills.

How to get PR5 fast? Buy links from a numbe PR7 sites related to your niche and you'll have PR5 for sure. There is no fast way to achieve PR5 without paying. If you do it the hard way, do steady link building over a period of months or perhaps years.

But evaluate first if the dollars you shed and the time/energy spent to achieve such a meaningless ambition is worth it.

Get links from good pr sites which are frequently crawled by google

Yes, I agree with the majority, get lots of backlinks from PR6-PR7 sites, it will soon help your PR up in a few months or so.

Don't get too much incoming links. Only a few links with PR7. Don't get any links which has less then PR7.

If PR is all you care about then optimize your website for a non-competitive keyword term, such as your name and get lots of decent PR back links with this term in the anchor text.

Try submitting to free directory sites such as directorycritic and link exchange.

higher page rank needs lots of backlinks from qualitya and relevant websites and directories. So if you can afford, buy links, post/reviews, forum signatures etc.

You need to link your site to related or your niche categories.
Choose quality link partners, minimize reciprocal linking and prioritize One-way links.

What you need to be asking yourself is, "How can I get a high Google TrustRank?"

PageRank is losing influence in SERPs with every day that goes by, because Google is absolutely obsessed with stopping link manipulation now.

IMHO: Submit to web directories, either the free or paid ones. Web directories help search engine determine your site's topic, this better positioned you in the search engine result pages.

Just like some members said, buy quality (same or higher PR), not quantity, unless you have plenty of time to build backlink - which most of us don't

But the question is, why do you want a PR 5? What good would it be for you and your site?

If you run a blog, content is king - much more important than PR (refer to the John Chow blog that ghoti mentioned). If you run a directory, then PR is important.
