I know that good content plays a large part in the process of gaining inbound links but is there anything else that I should be looking at in order to increase the number of links to the my blog.

Hi there,

I am also working on getting more links to my blog. I haven't always included my blog URL in the author resource box of my articles that I distribute around the net. Article writing and putting my website links in the author resource box has been my best way of generating traffic to my site and getting links back to my site. I'm going to start including my blog URL with all of my articles and see if I get the same results.

You can also use blog traffic exchanges, and submit your blog URL to the directories just as you would submit your site URL to the directories, free or paid.

Hope that helps,

Liane

You can get lots of links from directories and blogs but be sure to check if similar links from there have the 'nofollow' directive. If they do, then you are wasting your time, because the spiders won't pay attention to it.

Asking for links, posting in the right blogs or directories will get you indexed with inbound links. Remember inbound links take quite some time to get indexed and recognized. It takes time, it's not an overnight thing, specially with google.

Good content and topics that talk about problems that are a real thorn in the side to your targetted reader get links - and good placement in search engines. The key is to have a title that closely matches what someone with the problem might search for in the search engines. Friendly URLs are a help, too.

Comment on other related blogs. Add value to other blogs by writing encouraging suggestions, feedbacks etc.

Promote offline as well as online. Get some business cards with your blog on it and give it to friends, associates and family.

Offer a freebie that your visitors can download. They may well spread the word around.

One other thing not mentioned is check out the "Lifestyles" section of your local newspaper. Ours runs a featured member of the community article each day of the week. The article is nothing more than self promotion. Just find a way to relate your work to your community and you're set.

Submit your blog to blog directories and any articles you write to article directories.

Some more ways you could build links for your blog:

Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
Blog and Forum participation - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
Social Bookmarking - to high PR SB sites
Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites
Link Baits - for organic linking
Etc. etc.
