SEO resources?

I'm doing some research on SEO and SEM as well. I know some basic stuff but I would like to learn more in order to use SEO with my own knowledge on social marketing optimization. I know there are a lot of experienced SEO experts on this forum and I would like to ask if you would consider posting some usefull resources (here on via PM) that could help me learn:

- Some of the terminology I yet don't understand

- How SEs rank websites, by which criteria

- How I can optimize my site the "white hat" way (no dirty thicks

)

Why not post a list of terms or concepts that you don't have a full understanding of? Probably get many more useful answers that way.

I spend a lot of time reading SEO blogs. You can pick up a lot of good tips and info on them. You're welcome to go through and have a look at the ones I read, I have a list here at Bloglines.

mattcutts.com/blog - Written by Matt Cutts (hence the URL), a Google employee who blogs about SEO
mr-seo.com/MR_SEO_Podcast.html - Podcast about basic SEO

i like seomoz.org, and many people follow search engine roundtable (.com?), search engine watch, and I've heard good things about SEO by the sea, whose author is recommended by seomoz...

As to rankings...

Google: BACKLINKS. they came up with the technique, and are still very preoccupied by it. Hence google-bombing, where a bunch of backlinks with specific anchor text make a particular site rank for a term it didn't optimize for.
Yahoo: Backlinks, del.icio.us tagging (social search anyone?), and on-site optimization.
MSN: on-site, light backlinks.

They all give pretty accurate results, but google is toughest, and yahoo is sometimes a little eccentric about what it will rank or not.

What was really good is that the Forum is almost new, it's not tedious to read the post from the beginning.
