If this thread is not a sticky already, it really should be.
Especially the 1st step. That is THE most important one of all!
It applies to both online and traditional bricks & mortar.
So many beginners in business miss this very important part. It is easier to succeed with a niche than it is succeeding with something you love but may not have a big enough market. I hear it a lot. "Find something you are passionate about" and build a business around it. Well it may work but IMHO it is not the right advice. The best advice I have gotten in my live as an entrepreneur was from a millionaire. It is simple yet very powerful:
"FIND A NEED AND FILL IT!"
Which of course translates to niches, which are nothing more than underserved market segments.
