Atomm, that't a really interesting issue, because natural site growth implies part of the incoming links to point to deep pages.
On the other hand, I see that most of the people are concerned about boosting the PR and SERPs for their index page.
I am interested if your competitor has a big % of links coming to the deeper pages. With my sites it happens naturally that I promote different pages. For example, one deep page has a contest of the service, so I am sharing this contest with the community and think that some of the links are already indexed (was not checking for this page).
But I think the vast majority of incoming links still point to index page with my sites. So can you approximate how much links are pointing to deeper pages with your competitor?
