I found alexa is really not accurate. according to be inaccurate.
All info collected by alexa is from alexa toolbar which surprizingly works only with internet explorer. more over. with just 180k user base. its really easy to manipulate results. Most of the normal users don't use alexa toolbar at all. So if u want to judge the popularity of a site than don't use alexa.

Well, I guess that's no surprise for most board members Alexa Rank represents nothing else than the site popularity with Alexa Toolbar users. It can be, and is being easily manipulated. Not to say that most of its userbase are English speakers, so it renders the statistics even more useless for international websites.
What I don't understand is why so many people consider the Alexa Rank a useful piece of information.

alexa is only around 60% accurate... I don't trust alexa that much...

i was actually amaized by the user base alexa has.
I used to think that alexa has about 50 million users. But 180k?
Thats just too small to actually do such servey's.
i think there is about 600-700 million internet users world wide. So the comparison can often fool anyone. how could a beta quality site like live.com get 14 rank?

Yes, Alexa's accuracy is not 100%.. It can only track traffic from those that have installed Alexa toolbar in their browsers. Consider that there is also a possibility of abuse, it is not worth studying the figures.

Only joking! ....your right as with any toolbar it takes a small sample, worse still it takes an unfair and bias view of genres due to the fact that only certain types of people would install & run toolbars.

What it can be useful for is comparing sites in the same genre, however as it can be manipulated you need to measure the results alongside other data.

Have anyone noticed how their Alexa Rank increases dramatically when you put that Rank thingy on your site.

lolz. yap thats true. Google also uses only link population and pagerank to determine who's coming first in the ranks. I used to think google uses page views. but there is simply no way to determine how populer the site is exept the server statistics admins get.

Anyone can cheat alexa nowadays. So I don't consider it as a good resource to guess some site's traffic.

Why would you want to cheat Alexa besides when you want to sell your project and want to have some shiny statistics for the lesser-savy customer-to-be?

Agreed.

I agree, although I promote it. Alexa is good for something else. It can guard your PC as a spy ware and give you an eye focused on what your kids are doing on the Internet :tooth:

I've had it installed before. My computer thought it was spyware though. I don't have it installed anymore though.
