Nope, I've heard they don't really help you out much.

You need more options on this poll! I have sitemaps on a couple of my sites but not most of them. I also use the google sitemaps site to track the indexing/spidering of my site but not necessarily have a sitemap on those sites.

:dots: So i think the mejority of web master or SEO people use Sitemap for their website they are working on.

But is there any script for PHP, script for ASP or ASP.NET or script for JSP or HTML to generate sitemap? I have dynamically created sitemap using ASP.NET by coding in C#. I would like to now asny specify script for any of the above?:001_rolleyes:

I don't know about any of that, but I used GSiteCrawler by SoftPlus to make all of mine.

I only use Google Sitemaps when a site gets into supplemental. I change URL's, do some other changes and create a Google sitemap. It usually works and after a month or two I remove the sitemap.

I use regular sitemaps when I need to get doorway pages indexed or if I want to vary the anchor texts of ingoing links to my subpages.

would sitemaps help improve my re-indexing when I change a url scheme? Ie - remove the .html or use /foo/to/path instead of /bar/to/path?

I've noticed since I changed my wordpress slug, my traffic went way down.

I always use an "internal" sitemap on all my sites. As far as using the Google sitemaps program... I have before, but haven't seen much benefit from it. The most important thing is just to make sure that every page in your site can be reached in under 4 or 5 clicks from the homepage.

If google promotes it, then I will use it, not to do so is sheer lunacy.

And, as a by-product, you receive useful statistics.

I recommend Wordpress with the

plug-in for both blog enhanced and blog-only sites.

That's very dependent on your link popularity. 4 or 5 clicks could be too far away. Also 10 clicks away isn't a problem on a website with lots of link love ;-)

Excellent point! 4-5 is probably a good average for most sites
