You can not really be surprised about that. Although people are slowly getting aware of the real significance of pagerank, there are still heaps who jump up and down with joy when they see that green bar. And the kind of "SEO experts" I think you're referring to are in the business of maintaining the myth.

Did anyone actually read the article, 5 secrets of seo? those must be the 5 worst kept secrets in the world!!

1. There is no shortcut - wow amazing insight! every seo blog tells you thant
2. Optimize for your users not search engines - doh! you can do both!
3. Create Value and have values - oldest advice in the world - content is king!
4. build brand via blaa blaa - Every graphic design student in the world knows that
5. There are no secrets - wow just like fightclub the first rule is there is no fightclub.

So basically this is just a re-hashed article that you could find anywhere, no new insights at all, complete bolox!

1) Yes I read it
2) There are plenty of misinformed people out there that think PageRank is the be all and end all of SEO
3) I've seen plenty of places where you wouldn't see an article like this. It might seem like common sense, but there are plenty of people who have been brainwashed by SEO companies and "experts" into thinking SEO is all about keyword density, PageRank and other things. This article is there to inform these sorts of people that there are other things to SEO and that optimizing for visitors is more important than optimizing for search engines.

I personally thought for the reasons listed about the article was a good read. It's not particularly in depth as far as SEO goes, but its a great start for beginners. It does have a lot of value.

I read the article, and I thought it was a good one.
Nobody never said there was something never told before.

You may know all those things, but just 3 minutes ago I read a thread where the creator asked how to unban his fan website because he thought that to many photos of the artist without alt attributes had get him blacklisted from google, msn and yahoo. He even mentioned altavista.

Not everyone has a full knowledge of how it works, and this article is oriented for beginners.
You've got to give VirtuosiMedia credit for that.

Welcome to the forum, eshop, and thank you for your concern over my article. Perhaps you could be so kind as to elaborate how this and future articles might be improved?

eshop not everyone might know as much as you do about seo. All intro articles will be obvious to experts. That's no reason to criticize the article.

I'd also suggest the point of the article is to say there are no secrets and that much of what you want to do is common sense things.

Most everything you read online and offline is rehashed material. Did you know every novel ever written can reduced to about one of 30 plot lines. I guess we need to stop reading novels since they're all rehashing the same plot.

Very little is completely new insight. But that doesn't mean rehashing is bad. Not everyone saw the original. Each rehash can offer its own perspective.

Should we go through your blog and look at all the new insights you've added to the world or will we find a lot of rehashed material on your blog as well?

This seems to be more of a primer on ROI than SEO, but you’re right in that sometimes people lose focus on the intent of their web businesses.
