Blog comment is another way to increase your site's backlinks but sadly it was now known as blog spam,. When doing this, make sure that it is related to your site and its not using a no follow attribute

If you only comment on blogs that remove the rel="nofollow" attribute from the <a href="your site"> element, that's on the edge of whether it's spam or not. I say it's not, if you comment only on blogs you like, and only after actually reading the post. Others will say it is - the key thing is to be aware of how your actions may be perceived.

If you comment on blogs you enjoy, your interest means you know about the subject, and have something to say worth hearing. If your comment impresses other readers, some of them will click your link. Or at least take note of you, and have a look some otrher time.

Leaving blog comments purely for SEO will disappoint you, after you spend your time commenting and don't get SEO out of it. But if your hope is to network with other bloggers, then you'll get your way.

If you leave (non-spam) comments on Do Follow blogs you will create backlinks to your site. If you are leaving relevant comments on blogs similar to yours, you could gain more readers for your blog.

Read the thread James linked to and read John's comment above (#6).

Don't worry so much about any direct seo benefit with the comments you leave. Sure if you find dofollow blogs and you have something to say, then by all means leave a comment and you get a link.

The real benefit in commenting on blogs isn't about seo at least not directly. Blog comments send direct traffic when you leave interesting, entertaining, useful, engaging, intelligent, etc. comments. Real people do click on the links.

Commenting on blogs also allows you to network with the blogger and the other people commenting. Find a few blogs you enjoy reading and have something to add to the conversation and start commenting when you have something to say. One or two comments isn't going to do much, but if you consistently comment and become part of the community around the blog you'll gain a lot over time.

Like I said people will click on the link that gets added to your name. Don't write a keyword rich name. Use your real name, a common username, or your site name. As you get to know other people they will start linking to you without you having to ask them. In time there will be seo benefit.

Blog commenting is a more of a way to get exposure and build relationships rather than to increase SEO. But it won't work much at all unless you post good, useful comments.
