Do URL's which i have changed the anchor text of get deleted from the search results?

It has been about 2 months now and it is still saying that the pages have not been found in webmaster tools, it also has a warning sign next to it.

Shall i set up a robots.txt to block the search engine's from these? Or will they delete naturally and everything restore back to normal??

Thanks all,

Dave

If you delete a page from your site, and that page is indexed in google, google will preserve the PR of that page and it will check for its existense a long time from the time it was deleted, even if the page will not apear in search results. I deleted a subdomain 2 years ago, and after 1 year i reinstate that subdomain. All the pages reapear on google at the same position for their respective keywords. If you want google not to check for the existence of the deleted files, you should sent a 410 response, not 404.

URLs don't have anchor text, links do. Once Google knows a page exists, you can play with the links to it, but that page is still that page.

If it starts returning 404 errors, it's gonna fall out of the SERPs. They'll still hold it in their index and if you bring it back, it'll reappear. But it won't actively show up in searches. For most people, that's good enough.

Or you can just use Google's remove a URL feature in the Webmaster Console at http://www.google.com/webmasters if you want to get rid of a page in a hurry.
