Holy wow! Something is wrong! I have traffic!!!

Haven't checked my stats in like 3 months. I've been using my blog mostly as a scratch pad, let me jot my thoughts down so I don't have to carry them around in my head. Work ideas out. Express frustration at boneheads. But then I finally got around to it, and people actually read this stuff!
I had 2 pages that got more than 800 people, one of 'em in the high 900s. That's insane! 205 people came to visit yesterday, 395 on Thursday!! Peeps find me searching for "global warming", "adblock pro", "peter patera boxing", "bush" and "norman mailer". Last month alone there were 2,400 unique visitors!
I haven't been submitting to mad amounts of directories, I haven't been joining forums just for signature links (this is the only forum I frequent), haven't been commenting on to many blogs. It's been a experiment to see if a blog (and most blogs only have 1 reader, the guy who writes it) could have any success without a massive SEO effort. Lately I didn't even think it would work, and I'm sure promotion would get more readers more quickly. But content alone with merit and not marketing does eventually pick up on its own.

Hi there
I too have had an increase in traffic, and i havent been submitting to loads of dirs or anything either, i have done in the past and it go me no where, so i just post on forums and blogs now, and create better content, so seems you dont have to submit to countless amounts of free directories after all lol !

Nice one John! Is it mostly organic search traffic? What's the percentage spread of search terms you're being found for?

I think the reason you are getting all the traffic is due to the natural search traffic.
Also, google likes articles that have errors or grammatical problems, as it creates a natural look and feel, seeming that a human actually wrote it.
I think in time if you have good articles and constant updates you dont need much off page seo tactics.
Congrats on your new success!

That has got to be the strangest "theory" I've seen in a while.

So couple bad Engrish with bad code and you have a winning combination. I bet you get extra marks for half truths and misinformation too

Thats good to hear John. Maybe people will take note that PR is not important, and all that is needed is good quality content.

I'm sorry, but I burst out laughing at that theory.

That is completely brilliant. I am thoroughly jealous but also feel like, great, one day I may actually get decent traffic. Let's see, after 6 months, I'm on...about 5/10 uniques a day. Hurrah!

The world is rotunda. Electrons travel at the speed of leprosy. TCPIP = Transmittion Covering Polish Irreducible Procedurism. I watched the game last night on paper view, until a tragedy was purple traded by Fuzzy Wuzzy, a gay Teletubby.
And if that wasn't confusing enough, my blog has moved ( of sorts) to ( can I get a drumroll please?) http://alexandersarchive.wordpress.com/

Well, it's good to know you're back in business ... of not being in business. I've bookmarked your new site; it looks like you're having some trouble with line breaks?

From everything I have experienced, PR has no impact on SEO at all. PR is Google's trust rating. It means you are a good Internet community member.

Keith, I don't think that's 100% correct. I agree that PR is Google' trust rating but PR *should* have an effect on how the site is ranked by Google. Yes, PR might not be taken into account by other SEs. There is this page on my site that got about 20 uniques/day after a week of posting (when the PR was 0). Then, as the PR climbed to 5, it gets me 650 uniques/day. I have checked the inbound links (from Google's webmater tool and on Yahoo! and MSN) which are from insignificant pages and so the deduce: the rise is PR was because of internal links. It still confuses me but as I mentioned, Google would definitely take PR when tanking a web site though it's component in the calculation might be very small.
