What does this mean?

Can anyone explain to me what Ruby is and how it differs from Ruby on Rails? Still a little at odds at whether it's a programming language or whether it's just some sort of platform built on top of php?

Looking at the Ruby site that Giselle posted, I'm wondering why someone would like to take the time out to learn a new language?

Would it be worth spending weeks learning new stuff when it looks as though the already popular languages do the same job?

I'm not being pedantic, just wondering if anyone has any experiences with it and would recommend it to anyone else.

I decided to look through the Devshed index (on a whim). I thought to myself "I wonder if the devshed admins have wisened up yet, and created a Ruby forum?"

Ruby or .NET MVC which one you all prefer
