We are about to prune the majority of the branches from our evolutionary tree. Gene research will soon allow us to start eliminating "undesirable" traits from our offspring. We may not ever allow cloning, but Gattica style gene engineering will definitely get its legs under it via the auspices of elminating disease.
My wife tells me the human Male gender will also soon no longer be necessary. Invitro, genome research, etc, will render our sperm contributions unnecessary. Planet of lesbians.... somehow the idea intrigues me.

I'm an Atheist, and I believe in the Big Bang Theory and Evolution of species. That certainly doesn't make me any more or any less a human than everyone else. I have the rights to think what I want, and believe what I want to believe.

You will also (forgive me if this comes out wrong) BURN IN HELL!!!! Sorry I know that is not what you want to hear but you will go to hell if you do not change your beliefs, so please pray.

if it's asked so nicely - I can't resist
Also (not attacking, just asking), why do you care what people believe in as long as you are happy with your belief and in peace with yourself?
As long as I know, being catholic doesn't make you a better person. You are how you act, not what you believe in.

lol Julien - my church signs my paycheck - but I don't believe I've never tried to convert you. I'm not going to argue whether or not we are all monkeys either (at least not right now - I reserve my right to argue it later )

I respect that. If you want to explain to me why you believe in which god and how beneficial it has been to you and the people around, sure.
But if someone's only goal is to convert me, no thanks.

I can't burn in hell, since I don't believe in hell. When I die, I get put 6 feet under and that is it, end of story and game over.
I also don't pray to anyone, since there is no supreme being except for myself. Each person is their own supreme being.

If I was blind and I was walking toward a cliff and I thought I was just walking in a safe place, would I still fall off even if I did not believe that cliff was there?
The answer is yes even if you don't believe in hell you will still spend eternity there if you don't change your ways.

Only warning I am going to put in this thread (and another mod may still decide to close it) ---
BE NICE. It is ok to have different opinions/beliefs, even to express them and discuss them. It is not ok to force your opinions/beliefs on another member or degrade/insult another member because their opinion/beliefs do not match yours. If you can not have a civilized, not threatening conversation regarding an issue - DON'S PARTICIPATE IN THAT DISCUSSION.

Thank you Kandi. <3
If it's one thing that really pokes my nerves, it's people trying to shove their religion or beliefs down my throat and violating my right to religion and expressions.

So it's alright for you to force your beliefs on us, yet at the same time you complain about others trying to force their beliefs on you?

Maybe we'll reach the point in genetic engineering when we don't need to reproduce, meaning we don't need them . And our life expectancy will increase indefinitely.
It does get you thinking though, once humans reach that "enlightenment" stage, just how many of our society's values, beliefs, and lifestyle choices will one day be rendered obsolete?

I care whether my doctor "believes in" evolution because bacteria evolves resistance to antibiotics.
I care whether we teach the truth in schools, because our unique relationship with the laws of physics is what distinguishes humans from all other animals.
If we fail to teach evolutionary principals because they offend toothless people's strict interpretation of the Genesis story, and fail to teach radioactivity because cosmic background radiation disagrees with a 6,000 year old Earth, we're going to lose our ability to compete in the world economy. If willful ignorance takes away our ability to understand how the world works, we won't be able to keep the lights on, or build a car that runs.

see you care too much - you don't seem in peace with yourself
I get your point about concrete things that we can prove.
But as far as I know, no one can prove that god exists or not, and no scientist has given proven that the big bang theory is verified.
There are proof of evolution, we can't deny that. It's just a matter of: did it start with two giant meteorite drinking and driving or with a holy spirit bored out his mind that decided to create a messed up planet?

Exactly. People aren't ( socially) allowed to have their own views on, say, European history.
