Hi folks,

I am looking for some help, I have been asked to build a forum for my boss, php seems to be the way to go, unfortunately I am a php novice (html is my bag), Are there any online tutorials or can anyone suggest any books that I can read to at least get me started.

my advice use either phpbb that is a free script, or vbulletin that is payed one
then you can use you're HTML skils to custumise the layout

I have downloaded phpbb2 but the install instructions are a bit vague, but cheers for the feedback

But is very easy to install phpbb read the instruction is step by step

To setup a forum/message board you need a web host who can provide you with a database.

Once you have your database setup I recommend downloading PunBB, which is a free message board software that can easily be integrated into any other site design.

Is this forum meant to be used on the Internet or on a local lan (intranet)?

For in house use there may be some more simple scripts out there. For the net, the phpbb is the best choice. Most hosting companies offer a free install of it via your control panel. It is very simple when you do it that way.
