I know how to code html by hand but what programs do you use to make this easier? i have done two personal websites before.
i just got a job as a webmaster. a church wants me to do a simple website for them, they asked me how much ill charge

what is the usual fee for something like this ? give me some advice on pricing?

i also want to know how much is charged for updating the website

my advice is to find a free CMS if you can't afourd a a payed one ... and make the design based on that.

It's easyer for you .. and the client to update the page.

And the fee for that depends on the number of pages ..and images that you have to process for the website.

While i agree that cms can be easier, but i find u can be limited unless you know how to make the template for it your self of you can pay someone to make a custom template.


considering its a curch site, which i would think wouldnt have that much chnageing, you could probally make a template if u like for pages and just insert you content into it,

with regards to cost it depends on lots, how many pages quality of the site, how long it took you, if you get a back link the footer or something, alsorts.

but it can range form £10 - £1000 (1000 being the best site you can possible think of which would make 4 times that monthly...)

and also it would depend how mcuh the church is willing to spend, im doing a site which i hope will be used for a small local charity, which i am doing free, mainly because i would like to for the charity which i am also connected with and because it enables me to practise and i have learnt alot throught trying to do things with it and have its has been my first completely tableless design.

I think that using a CMS ( already made script or building you're own )
is the best way to go. I have made a webstie for a church comunity and the belive me there is a lot of modification to make to it.

They add news verry often. It has a image galery from diferent events made by comunity.

Plus some of the members have they're own blog where they write and give answers.

So it would be more than a full time job for some own to make all this modifications by hand

K, i never really been on a church site to be honest but i can see the advantages.

Just to leach on to that point, im making a site which i hope will be used for a charity does anyone know a good blog script or something so people can make a blog on the site? or something like that BUT simple.. or some sort of really really basic myspace kind of thing but just really the blog/proflle page?

do you want to have multiple blog/profiles pages ... for diferent users .... or only one blog for all ... because you can easly find a blog script ( even free ) for only one person ...

if you want a script in like myspace where everybody has his own profile page and bog ... and you can add as many users as you like, you can find this too but i am not sure how if you can find a free one ...

Using a CMS is good idea unless your church's host does not support PHP/SQL.

how many hosting doesnt suport mysql and php ...
you can find very cheap hosting with php and mysql

even as low as 3$/month

I know you want to promote you're hosting ( almost every frelancer has a reseller acount ) but you could just wrote a single post ... the good people of this forum worked to make an edit button if you forget somthing
