I was thinking about to create a web directory . All i know the following:
-1.I need a database type software.
-2.Php will be the best bet, since i found a lot of high PR site are using it.

Does anyone has any idea about the nest step (3, 4, 5, 6 ),, or knows any articles where i can learn from. I guess i am asking a little guidance about building this site. Hey anyone will be able to add their URL here for FREE.
Thanks to everyone reading and replying to my post and calling me an idiot

For creating a web directory you have to select a software like Php link directory, esyndicat or sitesift etc.

learn something here - http://www.wtricks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3598

Hope this helps a bit.
Thanks.

Whilst I don't disagree that PHP is probably a good choice, I'm not sure that's the greatest way to reach that conclusion?

AFAIK, PR doesn't have any relevance to the scripting language deployed. Your reasons for using a particular scripting language may take into account some of the considerations below:
  • Performance
  • Ease of learning (already know it?, large community that know it and can help?, similar syntax to other languages that you know? etc.
  • Availability of existing scripts (cost of those scripts?)
  • Availability (and cost?) of hosting services supporting that scripting language
They're some quick ones off the top of my head... I'm sure there are some other things that you should think about when deciding what scripting language may be appropriate for any given project too...

Hey,

i've just built a web link directory script as a project for someone else.
If you have a template built i'd be happy to help you out with coding it with php and mysql.

The script i have made also contains and admin panel for adding and deleting links and categories.

Although it doesn't allow for users to submit links i'm sure thats not too difficult to addon for yourself.

email me your questions and i'll happily help you out...

Regards,
Martin

I won't be releasing it quite yet need to polish it up so it's not the same as the site i'm building for a client, but the community here at webmaster-talk will be the first to know when i make it avaliable.

Also if you have any other features you would like added to it before then i'll happily see what i can do for you.

Regards,
Martin

Well i don't claim it to be anything like phpld as i am only learning php and i made it on my own.

If you could elaborate "a bit rough" to give me some constructive feedback to help enhance it a little that would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Martin

I don't know if is what you want, i'am developing a category manager written in php. You may access the demo for the beta build (follow the link on my sig), yet it isn't free and isnt available for purchase for the time being.
