I personnaly use Eclipse + phpeclipse.
I never could install the Zend PDT package. I always have unresolved dependencies, but from what I've seen, phpEclipse is perfect for what I do.
I have been using it for the last 5 years.
Can work from a thumb drive, extensible with a lots of plugin (cvs, subversion, other languages, db explorer via jdbc...) and is pretty well made, beside from being one of the best IDE.

You can even go to yoxos to compose your own custom Eclipse package (which can include phpEclispe as well): http://ondemand.yoxos.com/geteclipse/start

Original urls
eclipse: http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
phpEclipse: http://phpeclipse.de/

Here is the yoxos package I've composed: http://download6.yoxos.com/archivecr...0b05fe83d9.zip
It should contain what you need. Download, unzip, and launch eclipse.exe.
No install, you simply can put this where you want to.

I started using Notepad++ not much time ago as my editor and personally I have to recognise that now I couldn't work without it. It's just so intuitive, powerful, and simple

In Windows I use Notepad++ and at home in Linux I run gPHPEdit. Both offer syntax highlighting for HTML/PHP. Notepad++ also has syntax highlighting for several other programming languages.

On Windows, when I HAVE to use it (like at work) I've been using PSPad, it's free.
At home on linux, I've been a HUGE fan of Quanta+ for years now. What I find particularly useful is how it will give you a drop-down list of user-defined variables in the script when you type the first $. I'm also a fan of bracket highlighting and how it will put opening and closing quotes around a piece of selected text. Very handy little time savers. Wish like heck I could use it at work on Windows. Using TightVNC to access my home desktop remotely is an option, but a really slow one. It drags my poor old Sempron almost to a standstill.
