Hi - i am just on the last bit of finishing a website and i wondered if anyone could give me some advice.
I would like to use some kind of CMS so the website owners can edit sections on certain pages. Such a jobs pages. I dont want the full site to be cms just a copule of pages or so.
Does anyone know or can suggest some Open Source thing to use (or anything really)- i have been looking at Joomla but i dont know if that is overkill. I just want to embed some things into certain pages and dont really want to use other peoples templates - so i can preserve the look and feel of my site.
Ease of use for the end user is really the key here - and although i have done a bit of php - its a long time ago .
I was also looking for a booking clendar control type of thin gfor another site (guesthouse) if anyone can help
Thanks in advance.

hi there,

the problem with CMS's is that they do take over your website and are alot of effort to intergrate into existing websites. They are also probably a bit bloated codewise for what you want.

Do you write PHP ? For something like this be easier to write a small app yourself. Or you can download one of many free 'news posting' scripts that work as individual pages - try hotscripts.com

all the best

Hi,

I agreed with Sir P. If we talk about CMS, CMS itself give you option to build stand alone applications. CMS does not include only Backend / Admin side of the application, but also front end / client side of the Application.

Mostly CMS uses their own Development Techniques, which is sometime hard to implement ( when you are working on specific section, like you need now ). If you ran trhough all the project from start then it was easier to do, rather then now.

so best solution for your query ( as i feel ) instead of looking some CMS , look for desired functionality Scripts. there are lot of site provide free scripts. ie phpfreak, hotscripts etc.

I hope that will help.

Cheers.

This is good to know - I am coming up on a project where I'd like to give the user some degree of front-end modification (they have no coding experience), but don't want a top-heavy back-end.

It's too bad no one has come out with a hybrid - something lightweight, easy on the server, and gives limited edit-ability to the end user.

There is actually a new CMS available that should take care of what you're looking for. It's called cushy cms. Basically, you give a specific class name to regions you want to be editable and then cushy will allow the user to edit only that section.

Not full featured but sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for. Find Cushy here.
