I would like a website like Freelancer.com (not Freemarket or TycoonTalk) only the bidding part. Here are a few of the things I want & do not want.
Things I want:
  • The job posting system (with job location, full-time, part time, skill requirements etc.)
  • A rating & feed back system
  • Job search system (with search by location, full-time, part time, skill etc.)
  • job management system
  • Uploading of files for the project
  • Employee search (with search by location, skill, rating/feedback, hourly pay etc.)
  • Email system where you can contact members, delete old emails all without hiring them first)
  • portfolio
  • Profile like Freelancer's profile with..
    • About
    • Area of Expertise
    • My qualifications
    • My Credentials
    • Education
    • Certificates and Awards
    • Professional Licenses
    • References
Things I don't want
  • Exams, Freemarket, TycoonTalk, AIP & Ads
  • Affiliate program
  • Limit on the job bids per. month
  • External websites
    • Linkedin profile
    • Business website
    • etc.
I already have a website hosting plan with unlimited monthly transfer and unlimited file/data storage that supports all major programming languages when the user signs up they get a profile automatically although it would need to be customized are maybe redesigned.

How must should my minimum budget be?
(I wanted it to look & work "good" but not necessarily professional quality. I want to get started then I can update & upgrade later)

What 5 skills should I select when posting the job?

It depends on weather you're looking to go with a firm or freelancer. The price range varies.

I am going to move this thread to Outsourcing Tycoon, if you have a chance to read this thread, Arifeen's post #4. Perhaps the Arifeen will have more tips as well in your thread.

Sorry about the "weather" and "whether" typo.

But yea, get a freelancer and let them bid. Go for the user with the best price and can provide the best quality.

A site like freelancer.com requires skilled programmer in my view and "good" won't be enough since there are many Hackers who would like to gain some advantage over the sites like this. They do not even spare a Browser based game (personal experience as a player)

1: (Important) I would suggest an expert of his field making the most secure website so that the people who join your site should have a sense of security and your site lives a long life. Other things can come later but security first.
2: About the budget part of your question, It all depends on you. If you want to make it big and have a solid plan for it place a moderate to high project budget. If it is an experiment I would suggest going with low budget. Since if you do not get benefit from it you do not lose a lot of money.
3: Lastly what skills you require also depend on the type of website. If you want it to be freelancer.com clone type thing. Java,PHP,mysql & HTML.

Warning last tip was as a layman and only what I understand might be used to make freelancer.com so expert opinion should be preferred over it.

Regards
Arifeen

I used firebug to see which languages were used to make freelancer.com and found the following info.

Javascript,HTML,XHTML and CSS were used to make freelancer.com

I would love to know what chrishirst has to say about my findings.

I'm curious, what did you expect to find????

ALL webpages, on ALL websites, on the whole of the Internet (and beyond) will be a combination of HTML, CSS and javascript

There is no other way to build websites, flash has to be embedded in HTML code.
Browser user agents natively only understand HTML, javascript and CSS, IE also understands vbscript natively should you be developing for a closed environment.

What happens "behind the screens" is of no matter to browsers, you could have developed your own server side language, and so long as it serves out data as a stream of HTML, CSS and javascript it son't matter one bit.

OP, that site spec looks pretty technical to me.

I would certainly ask a Freelancer for some references, but then again getting someone who has done that already is just re-inventing the wheel.
