A newly-proposed bill introduced by New York 1st District Rep. Tim Bishop (co-sponsored by U.S Representatives Dave McKinley, Mike Michaud, and Gene Green), entitled US Call Center and Consumer Protection Act endeavors

Quote:
to bar corporations that sent US call center jobs overseas from receiving federal grants and loans
This Act poses a threat in call center jobs in India, the Philippines and other countries by withdrawing incentives from American firms that outsource their operations.

Inherently, the Act also
Quote:
...requires overseas call center employees to disclose their location to US consumers and gives customers the right to be transferred to a US-based call center upon request.
According to The Huffington Post, Congressman Bishop called outsourcing “one of the scourges of our economy,” in an interview with reporters. “We can’t prohibit it, but we can certainly discourage it,” Bishop reportedly added.

Do you support this legal step? What are your thoughts?

We should not provide funding to companies that send jobs out of the US.....

US tax dollars belong to US citizens.....
The company has the right to run their own business.....with their own money....
Like much other outsourcing....the quality suffers....

Outsourcing is a must for many and a luxury for the rich. If i didnt outsource my website idea i would have paid well over 20k to get started! For a family man with a job there is no way i could have taken the next step to have a site built and paid that much! I come to freelancer and get quoted $1500 for the same project, the programmer has great reviews and if he messes up it's his review that is in jeopardy! Long story short for Mr NY. If prices werent so high in the first place more people would shop around local....I would love to! But it's impossible. For the taking away tax breaks....It's tax payer dollars going to your break so if they choose...take it away. But it wont stop people from outsourcing!

Outsourcing would keep it's flag high until it is profitable for businesses.
And I doubt that such legal measures can actually reduce profits significantly.

As a westerner part of me says its sad that jobs are gong overseas.

But then we all want cheap Ipads and jeans and phones.

And really what makes a person born in one country worth 10 times more than one born in a poor country if they can work hard and produce things that we all want.

What needs to happen if for western wages to fall gradually and let the Asian ones etc catch us up.

Then we will all be on a level playing field and jobs will come back to the west.

But like everyone, there is no way I can pay $5 grand for a website or $100 an hour to set up a database.

The problem in using cheap labour is that it can and does mean you get exactly what you pay for.
Assembling iPads, laptops, mobile (cell) phones, PCB boards and the like doesn't need for the labour force to be particularly skilled in electronic design or precision engineering as most of it is automated. What it does require, is manual dexterity and the ability to follow a set of instructions.

When it comes to designing database schemas or developing software it needs more than a "do A,B and C" sequence of instructions and you can't teach someone what they need to know in a two hour "training course".

Yes, to demolish corporations that provided United States jobs overseas from receiving government grants and loans. This Act is a threat in call center jobs in India, Philippines and other countries by holding the incentives from American firms that outsource their operations.

They really can't stop it since it will be the company's decision to outsource or not. They do that for a single reason, money/profit.

If they would to stop it, chances are, we will be seeing a lot of companies being closed.
