I know that getting users to a new forum really can be a pain, and I'm having the same problem at the moment. But I think I have an idea which may kill two birds with one stone.

I have a website hosting signature bars for forums, and the site also has its own forum. One of the sections is to allow people to post links to, and a brief description of other forums.

I don't want to post the link to my site here without being invited, but if anyone would like to list their forum on mine, please just drop me a PM and I'll let you know the address.

It would be a nice gesture if a returning link was given, but this is by no means a requirement. I'd just like some help building up a small list of other forums.

Be careful. Sounds like you're opening yourself up to a lot of spam. It's less likely to make someone want to join your forum other than to post a link to theirs.

Hi vangogh, that thought had occurred to me, but I think that as long as the links are placed sensibly, it should be ok. Even if people do sign up just to post their link and never return, it should still be useful for other people to help find forums. And of course, any blatant spam will just be deleted. If it gets to be too much of a problem, I'll just make it so that links have to be approoved before they're made public. But that you for your input

Good idea. Constant spam could be an issue however as stated.
