Digital Point forums? I've signed up on there and activated my email but I still can't post there for some reason. You could still check it out if you wanted.

Yea, Digital Point Forums is a good one. I'm currently using that forum. Have you confirmed your sign up so you could start posting there? I signed up there yesterday and I'm able to post just fine.

Digital Point is a good forum. Just stay on the good side of the mods. I annoyed one and i have a 6 month ban for "Spamming"... I did not though.

The Webmaster forums is good and also GeekPoint.

I have my own webmaster & website hosting forum which is running and needs members.

Webmasterworld is the place i used to go to originally. I find w-t a lot friendlier and a lot less scary, and I think the quality of technical knowledge here is in a way better because it seems more condensed. Webmasterworld is definitely a major mainstream community, though - I've been using it since I was in my early or mid twenties and now I'm 32. Although I haven't been there in a while.

They don't appear to allow siglinks (looking at some of their threads) and so they're not very socialist... or something. I think there's a lot to be said for sharing the wealth!

Try webmaster world, when you get tired of the rigidity, the daunting attitudes of techies who forget that underneath all programmers, developers and designers are humans, who like to chat a lot of rubbish and have a good time... you'll be back here to play the celebrities game while you fix your php and read about someone else's new idea for a great business scheme. This is more like fat sam's grand slam, here. Whereas who knows, maybe there's a lot less friendlier joints out there.

Having said that, wmw is definitely a good place if you want to learn stuff. I just started reading threads about google CTR and there's LOADS of banter which will probably help me make sure my new ventures don't suddenly dry up out of the blue later this month!

...and I have been reading their perl section- frankly it terrifies me... I'm unworthy of answering the easiest questions there: which is ideal because it means I can shut up and just read loads of stuff and improve my perl vastly, which is always wise... if you're good at something already, that's the thing to become even better in. Boy there's some perl wizards on that site alright. I think I'll land my tardis there for a while - back before yesterday! See ya.

Okay. More reviews. forums.sun.com are populated with really messed up freako people of the kind giving techies a very bad name - 40 forum posts on ego and verbal war and not a single bit of useful info to any technical question of significance - sort of "forum moss" or something.

But i have to hang out there until i find someone to assist me wizardously with java - it takes more than books and digging.

WMW - i think they are for programmer experts, wmt is for money-machine making experts. i know which i give higher priority.

The Sun forums are just full of crap these days, nobody seems to monitor it at all. WMW has always been a scary place for newbies

cheers. you're right. sun's forum is so crazy - i post a question - 20 replies come, off topic, accusing me of being 3 different people they recently banned (mad, because i've never been there in my life!) - and in the end they just delete my thread!

unlucky for them I'm a mean mutha. maybe what I am about to do will help us all - i used my sales calling manner (i sound like foggy - i used my karate expertise) to get someone helpful at Sun's EMEA office to give me the details to contact the head of business development based in London. I should be able to speak to him directly within a week or so (I've talked to higher-up people many times, due to my phone skills, but the details I got for this guy are good - I have his name, his p.a.'s name, the number for him, etc).

If a serious developer can't go to sun's forums on their domain, and be anything but put off and harassed, sun has a serious problem. I'll talk to this guy, Nugent. I'll insist he gets sun to look into this and give him a good idea of why he should ( I usually approach people as an investor in technology). Hell, I spoke to one of Sir Stuart Rose's men only yesterday, and we had a friendly chat about what M&S can do to be removed from my boycott (I started by explaining my position as an advertiser - 300,000 pounds of retail sales from 400 pounds of ad overheads... a genuine figure! but i think he was just pro-palestinian, that's why he listened. Naturally it was just an act of doctor who, i don't expect a press announcement of M&S stopping using israeli sources JUST yet. but gimme time. rose will submit).

however, for the purpose of progress, I'll read the link you gave! Not today - off to the library in my spare time to read my perl book. Meanwhile back here, INSIDE the tardis, the list of forums is now increasingly rapidly and moving from 1000 up toward the 10,000 UK forums I want on my list asap. I won't do any campaigning yet - elsewhere I'm talking to salient old people to be absolutely sure of the best "pitch" to use on the 300 million people.

Somehow I think my chance to do a BIT of java in passing (in the present moment at least) has slipped away. Although at the same time those computer nerds really reassure me. At least I know what WE'RE not - out here on these forums. When people mock the stereotype of a geek, what they're actually mocking is this freak fringe group you get which is totally exemplified on forums.sun.com!

The only on-topic suggestion i got for helping make my "nonviolence" chess was someone telling me about his new chess shoot-em-up game. i had a few dry words to say to that one, i can tell you, but i think they've deleted my thread. all the more power to use against them when i have nugent on the phone wondering how much money i'm planning to invest in java.

(ain't no sense in lookin down, ain't no discharge on the ground...) (just my 2 mp3 player speakers).

Warriorforum is pretty good. There is a lot of information about making money on that site.

v7n is another good forum. Its mostly about blogging. So if you run a forum, you might feel a little out of place.

Webcosmoforums is a kind of blogging, general webmaster forum.

Digital point is a busy place. Be sure to read the rules at DP, and follow those rules to the letter.

Webhostingtalk is a good place for reviews, web servers and content management.

webmasterforums.biz - general webmster stuff. This site is new.

What about sitepoint.com, ewealth and affiliates4u????? These are also some good forums where you all can get quality information and great tips.

Now a days digitalpoint is not that good because of some spammy threads can be seen any time. but for SEO they are simple unbeatable....
