Facebook is carrying out ID theft

My facebook account is deactivated because I deactivated since facebook is a bunch of rubbish. So imagine my horror, 2 mins ago, when i googled my name in inverted commas (quotemarks, my american and canadian brethren) and I found, as well as the 3 entries in cyberspace i know about since i control my own self-brand on the www, I found, yep, a FACEBOOK ENTRY for me, and it was falsified - it showed 5 of my friends, allegedly - but i had not met any of them - i am asian, and they put 5 fit asian women as my friends. Maybe they are trying to subtly bargain with people to not do anything about it - after all, i looked up my name because sometimes you think someone you met may google you, and you wanna be sure they see only good stuff.
i suppose maybe you don't necessarily wanna be seen as a guy with an abundance of fit female friends, but i think the bottom line is they have hijacked my identity and if i make enough money this year, i shall take them to court, assuming they keep that entry there. the utter swine.

You should send an email to their abuse department. They may help you. They helped me in the past.

I'll give it a try, but part of me suspects women looking at my facebook search-engine-result to size me up will feel more insecure about their chances seeing this array of total strangers facebook claims i am intimately friendly with.
A friend (not someone I've ever spoken to on facebook, of course, since those aren't "real" friends or why in god's name did they require a piece of software to get back in touch? how about keeping in touch?!) recently advised me that being a bastard is the correct procedure for getting places in life, and I suppose making women think I'm already taken so that they feel more driven to go out with me is all part of that. However, i'm probably too sentimental to go for the old treat-em-mean ethos. I'll just be nice, decent, honourable and single.
Then again, in a small way I am helping facebook get signups... and since Facebook is the blatant enemy of google, the biggest financial positive influence in my life, I should probably put money before vanity and email them in no uncertain terms about not using my name to advertise their wares. The fact that they picked out 5 asian names to fit my 'search result' is sick - for whatever reason, all the people on my friend list were a very diverse bunch, and for whatever reason, maybe living in a country of anglosaxons, there was about 5% asians in my list - yet facebook's result shows me and 5 asians. funny... facebook blatantly have very simplistic methods when it comes to delineating markets, and some deeply racist assumptions (it also annoyed me that most of my white friends had near 100% white friend-lists and my asian friends had near 100% asian friends... whereas out here on the forums - we are all colourless and genderless, except for the rare occasion that it is important to the discussion).

Sounds to me like you got a virtual upgrade. Congrats! And how can you tell it was you? Maybe the guy is your long-lost-twin.
You will never see them in court.
I got sick of the principle behind facebook and deleted about 140 people who I was "friends" with. I think Facebook does a good job of taking away the part of life where you are supposed to separate from and forget people, meet knew ones and grow.

Any chance that someone shares your name? Did you see a picture that would let you confirm it was you?
There are quite a few people on facebook that have my name. And I know there are a few groups dedicated to people with the same family name.
Edit: Just realized how old this topic was, bah. Don't see a delete button though.

True, find out if it was acutally you. Otherwise its possible someone created a fake account and it has nothing to do with facebook

If it was a picture and name of you they are right someone probably created the account as part of there master plan of social network advertising

The less information that you put on the internet the better. Never give out any information that you don't want the entire world (literally) to have access to. Once you put it out in Cyberspace, it's public property worldwide.
Just like dumpster diving, but you don't have to leave your house to cover every "dumpster" in the world...
Be careful out there.

Why would facebook do that? Maybe its just someone else with the exact same name you have.. i don't think you're the only person in the world with that name... but then again i may be wrong

I dont think facebook did it. Plus there are lots of people with the same same. My sister found someone on facebook from Denver with her name exactly! Overall, I like facebook better than myspace because its just more private and clean. I would use myspace for my public figureness, and facebook for personal friends.

Turned out it was just someone totally different with the same name! I never thought with my name that it would happen (you know Roger Jones and Mary Smith etc... all seem like common enough names, but mine... well I was surprised to find I have a name-double in India...)
But unlike Joey from friends I still haven't found my "hand twin" - I think that's what it was. All in all the worst programme on television, but that one joke was definitely worth having an entire 54 season pile of arse for housing. No maybe not. I can't believe that the actors and writers and producers of Friends got paid money rather than being sent to the third world and forced to do charity work in order to repent for their sins.

facebook ain't gonna do it, it will surely bring them down, some kind of hackers might have done it to you, so avoid bringing all your personal information on some sites, basically its common sense...

Maybe the women aren't the insecure ones.

To repeat myself, it was an error on my part. I have a name double in India. It's a nice smoke screen, of course. I'm sure after I've spent a year on my boycott the poor git will be getting at least 5% the hate mail I'll be getting!
"Maybe the women aren't the insecure ones."
That takes it for granted that these women exist. I'm no longer convinced. I think the only people pursuing me are mossad. Still, maybe there's some lovely jewish girl out there for me. That's how 007 pulls em, eh? Actually I did kind of get friendly with a really nice lass who used to work for mossad. But I'm not sure if there was any actual chemistry. A lot of the time I'm just properly 100% obtuse-male. Whatever it was, I pissed her off (through being ignorant, as usual) and she eventually stopped calling me. Alas - after all, she was definitely one of the intelligent ones.
(I do hate the way facebook is a very clique-fostering mechanism and people with monoracial friend sets are in abundance there - somebody take me to the facebook where you HAVE to have at least 20 different colours of person on your account before you have access to priveleged features like messaging)
