Then why register at all? I don't have any "hidden featured" or "hidden forums" of any sort.

Because they won't know that until AFTER they register!!!

BTW, sorry for not being on your forums lately. 10 hour work days and moving into a new apartment is kicking my A**!

Well I thought most people would be smart enough to realize that if I did have hidden forums, I'd say so "somewhere" on my website, and that would be tool I could use to convince them to register.

Also, Don't worry about not "Visiting Everyday", I know how stressful a move can be (and plus since your's was a cross-country one, even with long work-days pile on top of that) .

You should be PM'ing members who haven't participated in awhile and asking them to stop by and say hello, and to notify them that non-active members may have their memberships expire from lack of use, and they will have to re-regsiter in order to participate again.

In response to your original question: On the same note, take a look at this thread alone- 613 views and just 49 responses. It's like college classes- people sign up specifically to be in a certain class, and three days into the semester, you can already identify the four students who are going to rule the discussions and the remainder who'll sit back and absorbe

I just visited your forum and can say one reason you might, might, not have many posters is because the content I saw was mostly links to an offsite youtube page.
Please don't take this the wrong way but with a dialup account, I sit and wait for the video to load with a blank page in front of me about 10 seconds before moving on, IOW...content, you need some content.

They might have to register to view a particular part of the forum, etc. I have registered at a couple of forums that I have yet to post at.

is your blog a no follow? Do you allow signature links? I could see a lot of people registering to a forum just for the heck of posting a couple of posts with signature links and then take off to the next one, thinking their website will magically appear on the 1st page of SE's by doing that.
My point is, if you haven't enable signature, maybe they signed up, realized that and took off.

I do have signatures enabled, and I do not have the nofollow value enabled on them, so.... yeah, they can have signatures with links and whatnot, just nothing too spammy.

Whhhaaaat??!? You don't let them spam ???? That's why they are leaving

Well, my theory has been crushed and thrown away like an old pair of socks...

Maybe send an email to all members saying you will clean up the list so they must reply not to get deleted...
Maybe it's a stupid idea because you'll end up deleting someone on holiday who was actually interested in your blog...

I think I need some food...
