Okay, this is kind of a wierd topic. But I'm just wondering: if you were to build myspace or a site similar to it, what would you do different? What features would you offer (that myspace/facebook) currently don't, and how would you market it (since there's already an establish precense in the social networking area)? also, how would you develop it? would you start a new company or do it yourself?

We're actually doing just that with ClutterMe.com. We're trying to build a social network. Out big selling point is that you can 'Click anywhere and Type'. It's a cross between Google.com and MySpace and we're going after the social homepage market.

I would include built in Skins for MySpace so you do not have to go externally for them. Also I would allow the sending of greeting cards to other people.

I would also have a massive built in Arcade Gaming Area for Miniclip.

There should also be a much better forum where more chat can go on, as the current one looks tacky and is not really used to the max!

I have to agree with the skins. I would also take off the autoplay music. You can't believe how annoying that is. Also have a theme to keep it all together. I actually came across a dating site that gave each profile a myspace like page. Which is pretty neat. I would make all blog entries viewable by non-friends. I would also make different levels for friends. So that only friends on certain levels can read ...say.. diary entries or photos. Live Journal does that with the friend categories and I really love it.

I hope this helps.

I agree on the sending of greeting cards to people. I would also have a smaller event invite section, something more private, perhaps it would just invite people via the comment section. I think it takes way too much time to invite people to something on Myspace =)

oh myspace.. remember when everyone had angelfire or geocities accounts?? this to shall pass

what i would like to see on a new myspace...
-1- a bandwidth limit... so pages and have 48795682376 glittering things that make even the best computers gag and freeze

-2- the ability to reply to comment on your own page, like sub comments to something someone said to you, not hopping all over hell to see what your friends replied... cause some might not me your friends... just there friends and you lose the convos... its kinda retarded the way it is now

-3- a better more unified set up, the way it is now most of the stuff is a jumble, the code you put in gets changed to look and function like crap, nor is the editor very easy to use... the boxes need to be bigger so you dont have to scroll for days >< lol

The site looks good to me. Looks like you were not yet done building this site

As an active user of MySpace and a webmaster/forum owner, I would have to say that I do not use MySpace for it's features. They are more so the sprinkles on top of a cupcake. The reason why I use MySpace is because all of my friends are on there. There is no real reason for me to join a new networking site, then ask all my friends to go over there so I can talk to them. Get what I am saying?

I like bebo best, I think myspace would be better if it had skins like bebo does. Also Id make it so you could change the modules places and names.

Mashable.com talks about a lot of sites that are social media related.

You might get inspiration or ideas from there.

Disclaimer: I don't write for them, but I do work for 'em. They're one of the largest blogs on social news and networking.
