I'm been scouring the net trying to find information about the "External Link Alert" page for outgoing links on any Myspace page. Is there a workaround for this?

What I have found it is that people are trying to get their websites whitelisted, which is like trying to get your site listed in DMOZ... it might happen, it might not.

My thought was if there was a whitelisted website that offered a URL shortening service, that would solve the phishing page issue, but I haven't found such a site.

I saw someone do something kinda nifty, uploading a FLASH image to imageshack that had an embedded redirect in it. I guess Imageshack is on the whitelist, so might work. Only problem is, I don't won't to have to create a FLASH image everytime I create a new link.

Anyone have workarounds?

I, actually, really want to figure out how to get past that page too... :\ I heard from some people that when you get a LOT of outbound links helps you get whitelisted, though. :|

Simple.

Treat MySpace as it was originally intended rather somewhere simply to abuse and get links from!

It is the behaviour of so-called "marketers" that has led to the introduction of the interstitial page so trying to "workaround" it is simply exacerbating the problem!

I'm surprised you're a MOD with your trigger fingers typing away without thinking. Don't assume when you read a thread. It only makes an AS* out of you and you.

I HATE it when so called "MODS" group your question as everyone else's instead of staying on topic and answering the question.

No, this isn't for getting links or abusing the system for Pagerank benefits. Myspace can be used as a marketing tool. Click-thru's get diminished with this interim page, so I'm trying to find a way to either A) get whitelisted or B) find a workaround.

I'm treating Myspace as it was suppose to be treated - a social community focused around easily communicating with like-minded individuals, friends and family.

They let you put outbound links, but it goes through a splash page first. They user has to click the link again to actually go to the site. And, it makes it appear as though the site is trying to phish your login info, so click-thru's diminish.

I believe you have ably demonstrated your somewhat selfish reason for finding a way around the member protection that MySpace have employed.

MySpace was NEVER intended as a "marketing tool", it only became abused as one by short sighted marketers who as usual decide that everything exists for their benefit. Just because the owners and operators of MySpace then create a means to diminish the link dropping doesn't give the people who caused it to happen in the first place the right to cry foul!

The MySpace operators have every right to use any means they see fit to reduce the abuse of their site and it is their right to try and protect their members by whatever means they can.

If the interstitial page interferes with your clickthroughs then it is doing exactly what it is intended to do!

Chris, let's take this one step further then. The internet was NEVER intended to be a "marketing tool", but a means for people all over the world to interact and share information. It seems you use the internet as a marketing tool, which is fine, but don't try and say something that only fits within your world.

Do you even know why the External Link Alert page was created? It was created for people that were phishing other user's username/pass, NOT because of marketer's "abusing" the system. If that were the case, all external links would be disabled and the only external links would be images.

That is a completely false statement; my answer above dispels that as that's NOT what it's intended to do. Further, they wouldn't whitelist sites that aren't phishing login info.

Sometimes you MODs remind me of bouncers at my local bars; power trips regardless if right or wrong because of their authority "status".

So, back to our regularly scheduled broadcast, anyone know another way to get through the External Link Alert page w/o getting on the whitelist, which can take who knows how long?

LoL!
You totally diss a staff member on this forum and still expect to get some help???
Good luck buddy.

There are various ways around the "splash" pages. If you had any smarts you'd
be able to find the answer on Google in 5 minutes.

Dude, pleeeasse... Yes, I do expect it. How is it dissing when when it's more like calling him out? MODs aren't Gods, they should keep the peace, clean up spam and put their 2 cents when needed.

I'm actually a very proficient searcher but I couldn't come across anything at 2am in the morning last night with a couple glass of JD/Coke in the ol' tummy. Thanks for posting your very thoughtful and helpful post Lance! :P

He DID put his "2 cents" in, but you had to be disrespectful and call him an AS*.
That's not going to get you anywhere on this forum.

I guess you need to brush up on your search skills because they aren't very good, JD/coke or not.
Let me give you a hint...the key to bypassing the "splash" pages is to prevent your links from being
converted to msplinks in the first place. That's all I'm going to say about that.

To my knowledge there's no way to get whitelisted. I think myspace gives that page for all outgoing links.

I guess I'm just calling it something different because I can't seem to find anything about it. You did give me some insight into what needs to be done, but I can't find any specific documentation. Maybe I'll try another forum - Warriors seem to be good at this type of info, I'll go there.
