What are some good threads to post to increase activity? We all know about forum games and such, but what about other threads? What are some good threads to post to spark more interest within your community?

In a new forum, threads I post a lot are "favorite" threads. Favorite movie, game, music, etc. This is because these are something that all your members can reply to.

paper or plastic poll

open ended easily post-able threads are the best. anyone can chime in, so noobs have a jumping off point in the community

How many of those do you usually post up?

Well in a new forum I usually try to post at least 10 new threads a day. I try to vary the topics though so users don't get sick of one type of thread.

just like a child to grow a forum it takes a community... the key is getting 5 to 10 people to be with you in the journey of getting the forum going so you dont get burnt out by always posting etc..

Yep, gotta have your helpers (launch team). I honestly would be posting topics pertaining to your niche and having to do with the latest news about that topic.

Anything that asks a question, and can have a prolonged discussion about.

If allowed, I tend to have a really good Debate topic going. Ofcourse, nothing to do with race or religion, just general topics.

Some other good topics include:

- Who's your favorite _____?
- Why did you become active in this particular community?
(Others that I usually do were already mentioned by Chase)

You can also have a huge thread going, kind of like a forum game (Kind of like True n False that we have here)

What if you don't have a launch team?

I have actually had the above problem - so let me assist in answering.

It is VERY hard work, and lack of motivation to be by yourself trying to open a site/forum. It's like having a discussion with a brick.

Some tactics that are used by a launch team are creating debate topics, poll topics, etc, and literally argueing/discussing with eachother. If you think about it, that is what makes a community - so a new member will just jump on into the conversation, take a side, and post onwards.. A prime example of this is myself to this forum.

Basically what I am saying, is get a launch team. Save yourself a sweat down your cheek, stress on your brain, and pain in your fingers - get a team.

Well I don't have one. I usually open a new forum by myself and with my partner.

Get one. Get a couple people from here.

It works. I've already done this multiple times. People think a community is more "alive" even with 5 ppl posting. Two people, one being admin, isn't going to help too much.

I don't have time to get one. I run just one community - with my partner as well as my staff members. We're doing a good job thus far.
