Its hard to have success in an online venture when your family does not understand. I am having a bit of a problem with that now I hope that I can break on through.

Why would your family be against you succeeding?

They are probably not against you succeeding, but against you chasing a dream that they think leads to nowhere.

The online world is a mystery to many people, and they probably just don't understand the potential.

Of course if you prove them wrong then what will they have left to say?

Yeah^ just prove them wrong. Show them your earnings, etc. My parents are pretty supportive, I just don't like to ask for help because I know they won't always be there for me.

My parents are very unsupportive and think the online world doesnt have real businesses, they say get a real job. I only make a few hundred a month, I now want to make money online just to prove them wrong.

Meh, my mom just sucks.

She puts the simplest of things in front of anything, we just had a fight over a few things that were out of place in my room (she's real nit picky) and she charged me $200 for it.

She wanted me to clean my room before doing any homework, she doesn't even know I'm spending time on my business.

I even showed her what I made this past week, (over $2k), and she still tells me that one can't do anything without being organized or having education.

My only consolation is that I have a little less than 1 year before I'm gone (college) I even have a real job too lol.

The problem with internet busines are all of the variables and uncertainty. If you your adsense/yahoo accounts gets disabled your essentially out of business and these is nothign you can do about it to get your account back. Same if google changes thier algo and your site crashes in the SERPS. Or your affiliate network drops you. P00f all your income comes to a hault.

With a regualr job and career you can't be docked pay for 'invalid work' unlike adsense. You have legal options should you get stiffed out of pay versus online where there is no recourse. You also get unemployment, vacation, dental, sanctioned lunch hours/breaks, sick days, and health insurance.

Anyway, I recommend going to colelge and getting the 4 year degree since you can fall back on it if the online stuff doesn;t work out too well.

I'm sorry that you guys are experiencing this.

On my end, things are completely different. My family is 110% behind me and my success. They find that the time I spend on my projects is very productive and they encourage it.

My father is an accomplished business man with his own corporation and has opened several business ventures in the past. He knows how it is, and he was the one who pushed me to go into business, particularly marketing.

When he found out what I was doing online 3 years ago, he gave me tips, helped me market my site, and gave me business advice. Today, he is my main investor investing thousands of dollars into all of my ongoing projects. My mom feels the same way and supports me. As a matter of fact both of my parents have been begging me to open a business with them.

What you need to do is sit down with your parents and talk. Instead of feeling attacked by it, try to explain to them the things that are going on. They will have doubts and they will be skeptical, but if you show them your success, and you show them that you are spending your time wisely, while still balancing it with school, they will support it.

And saying this line helps, "Would you rather me play video games and do drugs?"

Hehe thanks for sharing Bryan, but my mom is totally unreasonable. I've already told her various times about me taking drugs instead and stuff and she's like well just take them and stop threatening already. Guess it sort of wears off the effect since my brother.... anyways.

Plus, I don't balance my time properly, and I'm only passing school because I'm a sneaky :shuriken:

Doesn't matter though, I've already set my mind I'm going to prove my brother wrong who only makes fun of me lol (I call his job telemarketing, which its not lol but really pisses him off), and my mom, when I pwn at life (hopefully).

I'm not too worried about it, I just want to finish this year, pickup a loan or scholarship or both for college, because I already promised my mom that I wouldn't let her spend 1 penny on my college education so I wouldn't have to hear about it in the future.

Sureeee, my education might exceed over $300k in 4 years, but I will find a way to get outta that hole lol. Anyways, yeah.

My husband is supportive, although because I'm working a full time job and spending the evenings working on my own stuff I have very little family time to spare which he isn't pleased about. We both agree that it will be worth it in the long run if things turn out well enough for me to quit my job and work online full time.

I think it is so important to have people around you who support you. It makes things a lot easier.
