Just a quick question, do any of you pay your moderators or admins? I have one big forum where I do not, though I will throw them a bone every once and a while, usually when we have something made for the site, like a pin or button, I will mail each of them one first, so they have it in hand when we put it up for sale.

My second site, I do pay my admins (I have 7, and it needs it), plus 6 more mods. I basically hand over a percentage of income to them, and they can either keep it or plow it back into the site. So far, they have chosen to put it into the site (we are saving for a custom skin right now).

For the most part, none of them have any interest in being paid, they do it because the love the site.

If you don't pay them, how do you compensate them?

Well since my forums aren't very monetized, I give them free emails, early content, vip section, stuff like that.

Is your VIP section normally a pay to enter section?

No, not yet. I will start paying them (but nothing much, a smaller pay, let´s say 20$ per month) when the forums grow bigger and when I´ll want to keep out of administrating.

No I am not. But I think I will give them some kind of "bonus" for the time they spend helping me with my forum.

I think its payment enough just to allow them to have admin/moderator status. Im sure they kind of 'wanted' to be admin/moderator so there should be no reason to pay if they are really dedicated.

Hey, holiday season is coming. A gift certificate or anything should be nice.. IMHO. Take advantage of it to boost your relationship with the mods. Talking about loyality....

I'd love to pay my mods, but the boards make next to nothing and most the mods do next to nothing.

I do not pay them either....it is strictly a volunteer position because they love the community!

Understood they are not paid, but do you give them extra perks?

Not much... The mods have hauled butt for years for us and we need to make sure they know how much we love them...

We have lots of fun things planned for them in the near future - we just need to get through this new design launch!

I don't pay my staff at the moment but I plan on doing so in the near future. It's just the site doesn't make that much revenue.

I don't pay my mods at the moment either, but they do get perks such as review copies of books DVD's games etc when I get them from the publishers and I run a staff competition every now and again. I would like to be able to afford to pay them though.

Becky.
