I'm in the process of starting my first forum which is a community/resource for people living in and around Chicago. Does anyone here also run a regional forum? Are there any special issues/tips that present themselves when you are working within a limited area. I feel like there can possibly be some advantages, such as: building a Myspace-like profile for people to network. Posting local events/parties. Finding local sponsors. Organizing events where forum members can meet in person.

Any other suggestions?

I know the guys that run TampaForums.com and they do a great job. Check it out.

I would exchange some links with other local websites. I would also advertise off line a lot locally. (bumper stickers, posters, etc)
