Hi fellow users, I'm looking for any advice on marketing a FMCG food product. I'm in Australia and am looking to outsource the foods production for the UK, USA, Chinese, Australian and any market that will take on the product. Breakfast cereal of my own recipe.

I'm looking for advice on the following and whatever extra input that I may have missed:

1. The best way to produce a minimum sample quantity to deliver to buyers.
2. The cheapest way to produce packaging and labels including nutritional information.
3. Any leads on manufacturers that would take on initial small quantity manufacture.
4. Information on how to approach buyers from the supermarket chains, as in management who decide to buy products for shelving to consumers.
5. Any secrets to future success in this field.
6. Oh! and the simplest option to launch a website that retains clients details so the information can also be on sold and info who would you on sell this info to.

Thanks. Alex

Just a few suggestions from me,
1. The best way to produce a minimum sample quantity to deliver to buyers.

i see this as a crucial marketing plan in your business and can be a long term strategy for success. I do suggest that you can tie up with local supermarkets or big boys supermarkets depending on your budget. Else local bakeries or breakfast outlets. You have to focus the tie up based on needing a small space to promote your product. This can be achieved by renting or giving free cartons with your line of products on shelves. Hire a few part time promoters and work only in the mornings and or weekends. Get the promoters to cook on the spot and encourage tasting, the key to success, as in any food promotion, is the taste, smell and presentation of product. Make sure people gather for free sample tasting and encourage buying on the spot with buy now! promotions. Do this for a half a year, im sure your business will fly. I advised the same strategy to a bakery and now they are operate a chain in both singapore and china with revenues over 6 figures.

If budget is a main concern, never fear. Do the co ordination with breakfast outlets and work on a minimal rental plus profit sharing plan with them. Try with one and aim for more. You or your immediate family can be the promoter at these outlets and you can save money on hiring as well.

Based on my personal calculations, you only need time, effort and the cost of your cereal to kick off. All the best! any questions juz let me know, these are just my 2 cents worth.
