Latest Blog Entry in Postbit

We recently created a new feature that lets you display your latest blog entry right inside of your posts. Look to the left under my avatar for an example.

I don't think so. Blogger doesn't allow you to enter custom ping services (I think they only have an option to disable/enable pinging of weblogs.com).

In the future we may fetch posts by reading RSS feeds automatically (instead of waiting for pings), but this method has certain hurdles that make things a bit difficult.

That's a shame.. I was looking for the ability to ping a server but i couldn't see it in the blogger settings.

Just an update on this.

Users of blogger (or other services/softwares that do not allow pings) can now benefit from this feature by enabling the 'WMT Update' method of update checking. Basically this means that the update checks are done when you yourself visit Webmaster-Talk instead of on a ping sent from your software. This does mean that you must visit WMT to keep your blog post information up to date, but it's better then not using the feature at all

The ping option is still there of course.

And note that I recoded this feature which resulted in previously saved blog post information being lost. If you enable the WMT Update method, then it should auto update, if you use the Ping method, then your next blog post will show up again as usual.

Please report any bugs/problems you have (if any) with this new "revision" of this feature

Do you have to have a certain number of posts? I posted my feedburner link and it's not showing currently. I've set it to Ping, and just posted a post at my blog about 5 minutes ago.

I had a lot of trouble getting mine to work, too, and thought it was just simply impossible but that turns out not to be the case. It's just screwy defaults. Anyway, I'm assuming you're using Google, and that it can display your latest blog post or edit, but that when you click the title beneath your avatar, it takes you to an ugly xml string showing the html markup?

Instead, add your address in this manner: http://alexandersarchive.blogspot.co...efault?alt=rss Obviously you'll want to swap out the address of your own blog for mine, but that should be all it takes. You might have to wait for things to propagate through, but you might now.

I apologize if this is a stupid question but what if we're using a CMS such as Joomla instead of a blog? Will the system be able to take my latest item via my RSS Feed?

BTW, I do realize it says blog as above but RSS is a feed so it should not be limited by Blog or CMS software I'm guessing. I'm also assuming if this were the case, WMT Update would be the only option.

Sorry but I haven't delved too deeply into the world of RSS yet, it's on my ever growing "To Do List".
