I don't think you're mis-defining terms because in the way you stated it, it would be one's popularity. I meant that it shouldn't be popularity based on an emotional basis (for example, we like the same NBA teams so I give you lots of TP). Good point....hmm, do I give you TP?

Some people have made it a race in the past. I like how you defined racing as being able to help people out. Unfortunately there have been people that would do anything to get some TP. A friend and I played with the system at another forum by giving each other as much reputation as we could in order to have more than the owner. That's how things like this get out of control. BTW, that was our experiment with the reputation when it was first added to vB and I was an Admin there.

Also, I hope that everyone uses the "report post" function whenever they see spam or bad posts. It helps the Forum Leaders to find and take out the trash.

We don't ignore the members, but there has been a longer discussion than this thread in the private Forum Leaders forum. So, we've been taking suggestions and experiences and mulling them over.

And keep the suggestions coming. We appreciate them!

There are some other changes that you'll be reading about and we'll probably note the TP ones in a newsletter soon.

I think the wording on that could be changed to something like "Did My Post Help?".

We probably will write something on how TP should be used. That's been mentioned to me by some of the Mods and I haven't actually done it yet. Another good suggestion that we'll work on.

Thanks for your comments. We never tire in trying to make this forum the best it can be for our members.

As I already mentioned in the TP Guide thread, everything looks good so far Dave .

(Except for not having those plugins I mentioned before installed. I'm going to keep asking for updates on their status )

Actually reading back on this point now, I agree to. But, since some people don't want to use TP they should be given the option to turn it off.

Its also unfair that people with a high neg TP are allowed to turn it off after they give bad advice for awhile.

So what I'm proposing here is that members are given the option on whether they want to be apart of the TP system, but ONLY get to choose for when they sign up, and after a set amount of time, I don't think they should be allowed to turn it off or on at their own whim.

to be honest, why shouldnt they have the TP system forced, as in my experience ONLY people who arent going to be helpful or bad would turn TP off if they cant be botherd with it, just dont use it...

Good points Dan
I don't think there are truly helpful members that would WANT to turn the system off.

I don't see what possible reasons there could be for turning it off other than hiding a bad rep.
