Apparently the owners of Freelancer.com don't understand the power of a name, and the importance of an Internet brand to its dedicated users, especially in the case of a social community!

Let's use an extreme example... if Facebook changed its name to Gaybook, would you continue using it (assuming you're straight)?

Some would, yes, because the content amassed by Facebook is still very valuable, but countless masses would form an exodus from Facebook (back to MySpace, likely), because they no longer identify with the brand.

Equivalently, web designers and developers cannot identify with a "Tycoon" brand, because they don't envision themselves as Tycoons.

Further, BYE BYE SEO - you've already dropped a couple spots in SERPs, and you'll drop even more when you change the <title> of the forum to something other than "Web Design Forums" in a misguided attempt to broaden your userbase.

The good news is it's not to late to undo it, though I am fairly certain my advice is falling on deaf ears, considering the failure of Freelancer to even respond to the vast negative response to the change.

All in all utter fail in brand revision. Mark my words.

Cheers.

Congratulation to the new owner freelancer.com by acquiring webmaster-talk.com. And I understand a change in ownership is often followed by changes in policy. But the name tycoontalk gives me the impression that the new owner is desiring to morph this forum into something like digitalpoint, the warrior forum, or wickedfire.

Webmaster-talk, as self described by the domain name, was a webmaster forum. The user base of a webmaster forum and a internet marketing (the term used very loosely) forum are very different. As someone already mentioned it is not too late to change the name back to webmaster-talk.com. But I doubt any voice on this forum will change the gray plan freelancer has for the former webmaster-talk forum.

In any event time will tell how tycoontalk will pan out. I suppose new members will come for the hype tycoontalk has to offer, while many loyal members of webmaster-talk will find a new suitable webmaster home. May webmaster-talk RIP 4, 10, 2002 to 12, 31, 2010.

I also don't understand why the SEO & Internet Marketing category appears above the Programming Category now. People come here mainly for coding help, so surely the most active and most viewed forums (programming) should appear first.
They are in the business of farming out programmers i am suprised they even left them at all Free coding puts a damper on their wallet.

Death is a change. Not generally good in terms of websites.

interesting move, so does that mean we all have freelancer accounts?
I only ask because a client had just asked me a few weeks ago if I had one, I guess freelancer has some type of payment system built in?
I may be thinking of another freelance site..

either way, congrats

I think it's just a separate subsidiary of Freelancer.com, not sure if accounts were actually transferred to the actual forum they have or not. I doubt it though.
