typically a week after the closing, especially if there're lots of entries.
I'd prefer the admin/mods spent some time going through the entries and throwing out the junk, wouldn't you?
rather than gave prizes to guys who submitted 1,000 junky forum postings?
if it's any consolation, i applied to a blog network and got accepted within 3 days, some guys waited 2-3 weeks to get a reply.
Good things take time...
and the cream always rises to the top.

when the contest first started I applied to the ad networks and within and hour after signing up I got a call from one asking for more info... I was shocked (as was teh person calling) that they called my lead so fast
Some do take time and even if you're denied the first time, you an still reapply with more info and contact the next time...
As Andrew says... i'd definitely like them to go through the entries and throw out the junk. I've put a lot of effort into submitting valuable content to webmaster-talk....

Well, not necessarily, but yeah. Lee had a similar contest at Earner's Forum. I was one of the five winners... I submitted around 10 articles, 800 forum posts (they were worth 1 point then), a blog post, and that was about it. I was one of the five winners. So I think even considering writing 100 articles is excessive. But hey, go for it.
Someone also mentioned it'd be worth it because it's $5,000 you could use to start your business... this isn't the case because most of the goods aren't cash, they're physical items.

Lee had a contest similar to this before... I think the winner was announced 3 - 5 days after the contest closed. I could be mistaken though.

And one more question from me -
I see only the general chat section being filled very much but in rules it is said that only 20% of posts from there will be counted. So you would be checking this too right?

Heya,
I'm the "someone".
If the goods are physical items you can offer it at a discount at the buy/sell/trade section in most forums if you aren't able to use it in the near term if the sponsor agrees.
That's better than having some piece of software you might not be able to use.
Where there's a will, there's a way.

In my experience, anyone who's been on the internet and been operating a business for a fair amount of time will be able to see the genuine article from the fakers.
Even if someone ran a article rewriter and spun a bunch of articles, it'd be fairly obviously...
believe me, i can tell a genuine blog commenter from someone who is just trying to squeeze some link juice, or push traffic to a cruddy opt-in page.
Tim and Lee have an experienced staff behind them, and I don't think this should be an issue.
One of my mentors mentioned to me a long time ago:
"Do what you're supposed to do, and you'll get what you're supposed to get".
It's worked for me up till now and I'm sure it'll continue to do so.

BTW, one suggestion for those submitting entries for the contest.
One way to have the contest results out sooner, is to submit an excel spreadsheet (or use OpenOffice Calc, saved in Office 97 format), and email the spreadsheet to the webmaster-talk.com email address.
If you have a couple of columns like:
Activity | Points
for example:
Blog Post | 100 points
and total up the points.
If everyone submits their results in a standardized format, it'll be easier for the forum admins to shortlist the top 5 submitted scores, verify them and have the results out sooner.
Remember, you are responsible for tallying up your points correctly.
-
PS: If you can print the entire doc to PDF, it'll help minimize any virus/trojan risk to the WMT webmasters!

A question -
Do you reply to the email that the articles are accepted? Or are they accepted automatically and counted?
If i send a couple articles today, would it be late or still you accept them?

Since the contest is almost over, I wanted to know where we send our totals to? Do we email them? PM them to who? Should we have something special in the subject line? And when do they have to be received by?
Thanks!

Its 11th may and contest ends on 13th May, so 2 more days to go.. You are so eager to win lol..
You have to send an email or pm Lee after it ends, and within 16th may all the entries have to be reached.

I'm trying hard! haha
Does Lee have a different email address or is it the same we've been submitting articles to? webmaster(at)webmaster-talk.com
Should it have a special subject line? Or will something like:
NaughtyGirl Contest Totals
be ok?
I'm still writing my heart out!

This is what i saw in the merger contest page -

There are a few minimum requirements that must be met as well, which you can read about below. All participants are required to keep track of their own points tally, and when the contest ends on May 13th at midnight, the contestants that wish to be "verified" will need to either email or PM (Private Message) Lee, the forum's administrator.
|
So it might be the same email address.
Although i feel that pming Lee would be a better option.

I'd suggest sending it to the webmaster (at) WMT email address.
If everyone PMs Lee, you'll flood his inbox.

Well, either way we are going to be flooding an inbox, whether it be his email or his PM inbox :P
Anyways, I hope I have a chance. I kinda took a break in the last week - just had a couple long papers due in school and it has been hectic. Good luck to everybody entering!

Oh, also, just to confirm this, you said, "The contest ends on May 13th at midnight." This means that the contest ends Tuesday the 13th at midnight (the very end of the day, not the midnight between monday and tuesday).
Correct? I just want to confirm this because lots of people in the past have argued (for some odd reason!) that midnight is part of the day before and not the day after, and yada yada... Sorry for the confusion, just want to get this strait!

if it makes you feel better, i believe he means 1159pm on may 13th.
contest ends on May 13th at midnight, the contestants that wish to be "verified" will need to either email or PM (Private Message) Lee, the forum's administrator.
All submissions must be received by May 16th at 12:00pm CST (if unable to do this for some reason, please notify Lee in advance). The administrator will carefully go over the points explanation to determine and verify each of the 5 winners of the contest.
---
I'd interpret this to mean that your articles or submitted stuff has to be in by the 13th, but you have till May 16th, noon CST to get yr points tally in.
hope this helps.
