Funny how someone who says they don't know much about it can have such a strong opinion on the subject.
.Net allows you to have transferable skills. You can use C# to write a windows forms app (or WPF application), a mobile application using Silverlight, or do what PHP does for the web and built very rich web applications.
Learn one language C# (and framework) and you have the ability to transition between multiple platforms.
Chrishirst, under what context is it all drag and drop? You realize that is Visual Studio and NOT the framework that allows that. You can use notepad if you want, but why not use a tool that takes the tedious parts of development away so that you can focus on things that are more complex?
