I'd say the server is setup wrong or that your credentials are wrong.

Have you tried getting the code working on something without credentials and then try adding the credentials after. Sometimes it's easier to get something working and then add to it.

Also if I'm helping with a project at Dickenson University, I expect something for it.

Port 587 can be used for "Message Submission"

You wouldn't.

The mail server admin would have to enable port 587 on the mail server.

I am not quite sure whats going in because the Admin tells me the port is open to accept anything from my server

i was just reading above replies of this thread.

i think it is firewall problem. or smtp server is not configure to accept request from your machine.
