OK, there isn't yet, but how long do you think it will be before MSN has it's own version of Page Rank. My guess is it will be within 2006, and it will be called "GatesRank". Instead of a "geen bar", there will be between 1 and 5 butterflies.
I can't wait, and I hope it's as useless as all of the others.

Hehe.
I like the butterfly idea.
Surely MSN have an alternative to PR, albeit the private one?

You are right. It seems that a good idea, lets call it...um, Google. This idea is doing really well, and other similar ideas, let's call them...search engines...no, let's call them MSNYahoo! or YahooMSN! Anyway, they start to mimick Google to a point where there is little to no originality. I gueas the old saying "If you can't beat them, join them" is now "If you can't beat them, immitate them". The real problem with this is that the one being "immitated" could very well take "all of the others" down the wrong path.

The sad thing is that people are under the "Google Trance" and don't realize that great engines like Yahoo provide better results. I mean ... Yahoo has great products and widgets. I don't know what I would do without my widgets. That's something Google or MSN has never offered.

Yahoo i have never used. No one in my collage i have seen use it.
And teachers go "Where you find that, trhough google?" .. ext... on forums when someone asks something stupid they go "Search google for it" .. Yahoo and MSN are searchengines both ok, nothing as good as google, and not so commonly used. They are used by noobie internet people who have MSN set as their homepage by deufult of Windows.

From where you have got this idea ? It'll not be popular any way, google page rank still rules. Need to be some thing special to be popular.

Google rocks but so hard to get a good ranking unless you have alot of time and money... I'm aiming for msn and yahoo right now and when I have enough time or money then I will try for a good position on google

I would hope that microsoft is a little bit more mature that to use gimmics like "GatesRank". The butterfly is pretty cool though.
I use Google to look up things well established web sites. None of the really new sites are on Google for at least 3-4 months after they are published and linked to. (Sandbox) while there are good reasons for the sanbox, I like MSN because it doesn't sandbox. I can find really up to date forum threads on MSN. If I want to find a blog I will use Technorati, Google doesn't even come close when it comes to blog searches. If I want a news article I will almost always find it on Yahoo! easier than Google. Sometimes I use Ask Jeeves. It seems alot of times you find so much spam on SERPS you might as well just use a directory. I seems like the whole search technology is regressing sometimes. Sometimes I will be unhappy with my search results and send a complaint to Google.
I like Google groups however. I am getting a few visitors to my website from Groups now.
I'm not Anti Google. I like usually like there search results. I'm not on the Google band wagon because I use different search engines for different kinds of searchs.
I haven't bought stock in Google becuase I think it owning stock in Google would make me bias about what search engines were better. I'd almost be tempted to ask people if they has shares is Google or if they are an agent of Google when they are saying Google this or Google that.
Really though, "GatesRank". I don't even want to speculate. MSN search rocks I wouldn't change it.
They need a soapbox smilie for comments like this one.

Things like page rank are condicending
It's googles way of saying "Hey, Moron. You are too stupid to understand something as great and complicated as our algorithm. So we will give you a simple number ranging between 1 and 10"
And then people act as if it actually makes any difference.
Page rank is constantly updated everyday, as are backlinks.
And neither are as important as SERPs.
I doubt MSN will be having an equivelent.

Yes Page Rank IS updated everyday, just not on the toolbar. How do you think googles search engine rankings change so often? It just isn't visible to us, but page rank and search engine rankings are updated very often.

Maybe not every single day, But it's certainly considerably more frequent than the quaterly update of the toolbar PR.
real PR is continuously updated. By the time you find out what your PR is, it's out of date. Same with backlinks.

Nonsense. Visitors and SERPS are all you need.
I would rather have huge amount of visitors than high PR.
Does PR click adverts? NO. Does PR buy your products? NO.
Too many people play this silly numbers game that google invented.

Why do you think google is so popular? its all a game, they create it, market it, and you happen to play it. So then everyone jumps on the same boat. People are always curious you know.
