Had 350,000 views on my Youtubte vid...how could I have made money from it?

So I recently put up a youtube video that gathered up 350,000 views in a matter of days. I was caught a bit offguard by the traffic, and want to be prepared with a way to make money if it happens again. I didn't make a dime from it.

Becoming a Youtube partner probably isn't an option both because most of my videos don't gather nearly that much traffic (usually ~1000 views at best, this one was an aberration) and also because they would probably be wary of copyrighted content (I use some clips from TV and movies in my videos).

The only way I can think of is to develop a website and throw a link to it up on screen in the video, and have google adsense or something running back on my website, but that doesn't seem like it would bring in much money.

Are there better ways to make money out of a youtube video like this if I can't consistently produce that many views on all my videos?

I could probably give you some good ideas here, but that'd be based on what it is you're putting together in your vids.

Do you have a link to the vid in question, or others like it?

one good/obvious way is to put a link to your site in the video's description field.

It was just a video of something I caught on TV with Charles Barkley saying some very non-pc stuff.

I don't really have a site dedicated to this kind of stuff or anything to link back to...

Low ticket affiliate programs convert like crazy on youtube. You should consider promoting one. I know people who personally make over $10,000 per month selling ringtones and other junk lke that just because they get so many views.

Right under your vid description, i'd put links to NBA related merch; perhaps you will attract a more ethnic audience as well?

The sky is the limit man. Brainstorm basketball, jerseys, coats, hats, shoes, etc.

I have definately seen Google ads integrated into youtube videos.

Promoting to youtube is really rocks and working a lot. Most of the internet marketers use youtube as their promotional. If you can gain that amount of views in your videos in a days only. then you can make money on it by selling a links to description. I saw once selling that and yeah it could make you money.
