Local advertising

I have a month old site (vBulletin with WordPress as the front page) geared towards the town I live in. I have Google AdSense integrated into my vb and I have kontera on WP.

I'd like to start advertising for the local businesses in town. Can I get answers on how exactly I should proceed with this matter?

How much do I charge?
Do I just charge a flat rate or do I need some kind of software to calculate clicks/impressions?

Any and all suggestions would be helpful because this is a brand new avenue for me.

It depends upon what you advertise for. Advertising for "free wallpapers" is always giving less revenues than advertising for "medicines".

You should also track the page impressions and clicks. because your advertisers may ask you for the statistics.

I think the advertising part is clear from above posts. If you want to know about the statistics of impression & clicks then you need to get some software which are specially meant for this purpose.

Why not put a poster or leaflets at your local post office/shop/pub, etc?

This kind of advertising is usually very cheap.

Maybe you could arrange a commission based system with the local shops so you have no up-front costs?
