Hi all,

The clue's in the title really.

I run quite a popular online music magazine in the UK which we're currently redesigning and plan to start hopefully monetising it at the same time.

I wondered if you could offer some tips into the best route to take. Currently we use amazon affiliates which bring in a meagre amount but atleast it's relevant to our readers.

Adsense doesn't display particularly relevant ads.

We've been accepted by Burst Media but their ads are mainly US directed and again not particularly relevant to our readers. We were rejected by Valueclick and TribalFusion. Do you know of an ad network that would better suit or site?

I see the affliate programs as a better way to get more targetted ads, would you agree this might be the best way to go?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance for any advice.

Jamie

Go for CPA (Azoogle, RevenueGateway, CPAEmpire, etc.) There are lots of music related offers that pays good.

Try the Amazon.com affiliate program.

There may be affiliate programs for legal music download sites like napster and the likes. I am not positive though.

Why not create your own product and pitch that instead of selling other
people's for a small cut?

Write a guide on how to play the guitar in 24 hours, or how to use MySpace
to launch a band, or how to get played on radio for free, or how to buy
decent second hand instruments.. etc.

If you can't write this sort of material yourself, you can easily outsource it.

I tried to monetize a music website with cpa and contextual ads, but found it was difficult - your visitors are teens mostly not interested in any adv. probably, i am wrong.

If you have a decent amount of traffic, try to sell advertising direct to record labels and indie artists. Most of my adspace is bought by these types of people on my local music forum.
