Hi,

I have a website that sells ninjitsu training manual. It is focused on a small nitch and doesn't get a lot of traffic. Monthly sales are about 2,000-2,500 (3,000-5,000 while using the payment processor). My payment processor recently had an investigation and held my money for some months before they gave it back. I was quite angry with that because their investigation didn't make any sense and now I am afraid of going back to them (I signed the contract on 10/31/06 with them for 3 years, non-cancellable). For now I am using only paypal as the payment gateway, but it is hurting my business. My question is:

Would you start using the same payment processor again, and potentially get another non-sense investigation and tie up the funds again, not to lose the potential sales?

Or would you just keep using paypal as the only payment gateway, and lose some potential sales?

I appreciate your input!

I guess whether it is a non-sense investigation depends on what reasoning they gave you.

Why were you under investigation?

They didn't really explain why they were investigating. Their risk management department was doing it. They asked some sales invoices and tracking numbers which I provided. They disabled my payment processor without notifying me. I found out a few days after they did that because all the orders were being rejected. I am afraid they may do this again without telling me if I go back to them.

The problem with having just paypal is that a lot of customers get confused once they are taken to the paypal website. Some customers think that they have to have an account with Paypal to finish the check out process. So some of these customers decide not to finish the check out process.

You could always go with PayPal Pro ($20/mo). If its integrated with your website, they'll never be taken to the paypal website (this is how my store is set up).

Personally I wouldn't go back to them, but this may happen with another processor. Therefore you must be confident that your site has nothing to worry about.

I would continue as before. If you have nothing to hide and all is legit why worry. But it is always good to do like Kenpachi suggest have many forms of payment.

I don't even like doing business with paypal because of the horror stories I've heard, but they've never done me wrong... yet.

I would not do business with a company that hurt my business. Unless there was a **** good reason that could be resolved... it's not worth the risk.

I don't know who your payment processor is, but the things you described are exactly why I avoid paypal like the friggin plague.
