I guess I technically do ------ my moms been working as an accountant for like 20 years or something like that.

She's the one who told me to file an LLC, she owns her own S-Corp for investing, and she's the one who'll be filing my taxes this year.

No, I don't and even when my websites are larger and I need to LLC my network then still I would work and manage my accounts myself with my partner.

I have a CPA firm that handles my tax / corporate work. I work with the head CPA, his assistant and a bookkeeper. They are very knowledgeable and do great work.

That is great, I think is vital to outsource this kind of work since it is so important and also time consuming.

I think it is good to have one with a little bit of web knowledge , but not that important. bookkeeping can be done very simple, with no need to know all about the business itself.

My first one was a total Internet and computet newbie, he still do all books by hand. ha ha

Is there a specific type of CPA/Accountant that will have a specialty in internet business?

I have an outsourced bookkeeper who handles all of the income/expense accounts on a weekly basis.

I also have a CPA that I consult with from time to time and who does the tax returns.

How did you go about selecting your accountant?

Yellow Pages, reviews, recommendations from friends?

Does your accountant live nearby so that you can meet in person?

I'm motivated to find an accountant in the San Francisco area within the next month or so, and I want to make sure I do the required due diligence, so any advice would be much appreciated!

Referrals are the best way to find a good accountant. They don't necessarily have to be a CPA, but they should do a lot of small-business / freelancer taxes. Ask friends and local business organizations.

Edited to add: They should always be up for a free consultation, where they can ask you questions, and you should not be afraid to ask them questions, like how much to they charge, what % is business or personal income taxes, etc.

Yes, I have someone who handles all my taxes and the likes. He does all the paperwork for my fathers company and is very good at what he does.

I don't have one, but have thought about it.

I am not a business and I keep everything I run under my own name/ssn.

Last tax season was a night mare. I pretty much worked on my books from january 31st to april 14th.

I am going to try to llc myself for jan 1st of next year so that i don't have multiple business vs personal issues in the middle of a year to split out.

Absolutely. Need a CPA monthly. I fill out worksheets (income/outgo) every day. End of the month I send to CPA who prepares a monthly financial report, pulling in previous months/years. Throughout the year the CPA handles franchise tax, corp tax, personal tax, sales tax, etc. Couldn't do it without her.
