Hi everyone...
I'm Uncle Jim. I have used PSP 6 and loved it. I got PSP 8.0 last year and am learning new things all the time. I have a question that I asked someone else, but evidently didn't make myself clear.
Let's say I have a picture of a red car, and I want to make that car blue, or green, or yellow. Anyone have any idea if that's possible with PSP 8?

I found this form by searching for "Tutorials for Paint Shop Pro" on Dogpile.
Glad I found it. This is my first post. Let's hope that I can help someone else, someday.

Thanks,
LTA, Uncle Jim

Yeah, you can change colors. Select all the red parts of the car and click Adjust>Hue and Saturation>Colorize. Set the Hue slider to whatever color you want.

Hi, Tim... Thanks for the welcome.
Hi, Bob... Thanks for the answer.

I had a problem with figuring out which tool to use. I finally figured out that I could use the Freehand Selection tool. OK, I got there and found that I could choose the full color spectrum EXCEPT black or white! Can I change red to white? Or black to white? Or any other color to black or white?

Thanks... That was a real help. However, I want to go just a little further.

Uncle Jim

I use PSP 7 which I think is perfect. I've really mastered it and I'm a pretty good all rounder with it now. I was thinking of upgrading to PSP 8 but a few people have told me its much harder to use.

For changing image colours, I (this is in PSP7) use the colors>colorize method and just play with them settings. You can generally transform any colour to your desired colour by just playing around with it a little. For instance, you can change green to blue by using these settings - Hue:150 Saturation:141. The is used to change the colour and the saturation the depth. Maybe its different on different PSP version although I imagine its pretty much the same.

It's the same between 7.0 and 8.x, but I don't see a way to get black or white. (Grey yes, if you crank the saturation to 0, but not black.) "Hue, saturation, and Light" and "Brightness and Contrast" just give you really pale versions of the original color.
OK, here's a thought. You don't really want "white" or "black". You want very light grey and very dark grey, otherwise you'd lose the details. Maybe if you colorize to a grey (saturation=0) and then try increasing or decreasing the brightness?

Why don't you use the greyscale option? That would turn your desired graphic black and white.

OK... I think I've found a way. I select the freehand selection tool> outline what I want to color> select paint brush> go to the pallet on the right of the screen and pick up my color>go to the tool bar at the top of the subject> select shape, size, hardness (go really light. I'm on 6)> Step (1)>Density(25)>
thickness (100). OK... After I pick up my color, Ileft click on the area I want to change and since my values are so low the color is very transparent. I scrub the whole area before I let up on the mouse, covering all the pixels. Lift up and left click again and that'll add another coat of the same color! When you want the color you want, select the freehand selection tool and right click it to get rid of the outline!

Hey! It WORKS! Thanks guys...
