Jasc Vs Photoshop?

I've used photoshop at my school, and it seems to be top notch. Is there something about Jasc that I'm missing out on, or is it perhaps that it's used for only certain types of work?

I mainly do text effects, would using Jasc make it easier, and output better results?

Thanks,

It really depends on what you need. Photoshop is probably the most popular application but that's not a reason why you should use it. Instead look at all the image editors available and use the one that a) will give you the results you want, and b) one you can afford - PS is very expensive for occasional use.

The results of your work don't depend on the software, rather what you do with it. Paint Shop Pro, Photoimpact and all the others can produce the same results as Photoshop.

For myself, I've just found PSP easier to use and for a lesser price. There's only one thing that PS does that I haven't seen PSP do, and that's to create a stroke from a selection. God knows, it would have made the figure in the second panel in this picture easier. Otherwise, I got no complaints.

There is no Jasc, sadly. Paint Shop Pro got sold to Corel about 2 years ago.
Photoshop is the industry standard and cost a huge amount of money. PSP can do a large chunk of what Photoshop does at a fraction of the cost.
PSP can be configured to your liking, as far as I know Photoshop can't. PSP certainly is easier to get to grips with.
I have used PSP since version 6 and now use X. I wouldn't give it up for anything, but might have to if Corel don't stop 'simplifying' it.

I have been using PSP since version 5. This is primarily due to the fact that I didn't have $600 at the time to spend on Photoshop. Over the years, PSP has become a very mature product with capabilities that overlay 95% of what Photoshop can do. Many prefer PSP to PS - I am one of them, based primarily on the balance between functionality and price.

Another thing to consider is that plug-ins built for Phtooshop are generally fully functional within PSP. I am running several plug-ins in this way.

WebSurfer, if you like text effects, you'll love PSP -- it really is capable of a lot of text-based vector operations. I believe it was version 8 where they put in gradient and pattern fill for vector graphics (including text) -- very cool.

BTW, I will always call it JASC Paint Shop Pro --

If only..
Jasc PSP was put together by a bunch of enthusiasts with great passion for their product.
Now that it is owned by Venture Capitalists via Corel, I don't hold out much hope for it's future.
I am not familiar Websurfer, but will check it out. Thanks.
I like working with vectors and have bought Xara Xtreme to get to grips with. Haven't got very far, I keep going back to PSP!
