Erasing Backgrounds

I am setting up our website. Have pictures but don't like them. Took some more pictures and need to edit them. I tried erasing the background on these pictures and it was really jagged. I do not have a steady hand. Is there another way to get rid of the background rather than using the background eraser tool. Something like point and click.

I also need to know how to resize the pictures for thumb nails on my web site.

Any and all information will be much appreciated.

Thanks

You could try using the colour replacement facility. This allows you to select any colour held within the background of the image, and have it replaced with a colour of your choice - presumably white, in this case.

However, I would suggest practising with the Lasso selection tool. If you set the selection method to 'point to point' and check the 'antialias' option, you should be able to get a fairly neat result by simply clicking around the outer edge of whatever you want to remove. There is also the added option of including a 'feather', which eases the edges of the cut out and softens the part of the graphic that remains.
