hello.

I've been using PSP 8 at work for the last 35 days (I have the 60 day trial version).

I would really like to buy it as I've started doing a lot of messing around with images.

My only concern is if it can be made to work in Linux. I don't have a windows partition on my desktop, but I really would like PSP (and obviousy, I don't want Windows).

Has anyone had any experiences of this? Maybe using Wine or something?

All i can suggest is look into the GIMP. It can just about anything other graphics packages do, just amatter of learning what controls do what.

Yeah, thats true.

I've use the GIMP a bit for personal stuff, but I've never really used it seriously.

Thanks

You might have better luck checking out some PSP user forums. If it can run under Linux with Wine, somebody might also have posted tips and gotchas. My first thought was the Jasc forums, but this little bugger is part of their TOS:

"You acknowledge and agree, without compensation to You, that Jasc shall have the right to edit, copy, publish, distribute, translate, reproduce, create derivative works from, display or otherwise use in any form any Forums Material that You have posted to the Forums. You acknowledge that You have the authority to grant all rights to the Forums Material outlined in this paragraph."

So they lay claim to anything you make and post to the forums. I'm half considering not upgrading to ANY future version of PSP if this is Jasc's attitude.

You might want to try the PSP user group at www.pspug.org. You should find links to other helpful sites from there.

Other than that, I too would try Gimp. I tried a version around 6 months ago and was fairly pleased with it. It'll give you something good to use until you get (or find out you can't use) PSP.

Let us know what you find out about running PSP under Linux.

I try to stay on top of news coming out of JASC and I've never heard of a LINUX-enabled version of PSP.

I believe a while back I tried this with XOverOffice and it would not install. I have not tried it however with the latest beta. Odds are good though that if it does not work in XOO it won't work with any other versions of wine.
