How do you change colour of font when using text tool to insert text ?

I'm trying to insert text into a map in Jasc Paintshop Pro. The font default colour is white !!!!!
Why isn't the default font black & how the heck can I change it to black ?
Unbelievably hard. I tried palate etc. I can even kern the font if I want & heaven knows what else yet this most basic of things is seemingly impossible !!! Apalling software design !

Select the font tool. Before you use it, change the foreground colour option to the colour you want to use than go for it.

when you have clicked to bring up the Text Entry dialogue use the Fill & Stroke selectors in the style section.
