Somehow I feel that is true. Although it may be true that Facebook ads are quite effective as you can choose your geographical area for distribution, I would rather go for the page or group and even create a catchy app if you need more people. Also, Facebook is not quite relevant for the conversion, as not all the people who will click on the ads will go further for a buy or at least see what your website is all about as they can easily get distracted by Facebook (and we must accept that FB can be quite time-consuming)

I think with any PPC campaign a lot depends on your target audience, quality of your copy etc etc.

However, when I was organising a Smiths Disco I thought FB ads would be the perfect way to advertise - I could set it to only show up to people who "like" the band and live in my city - sounded good.

But I spent about £50 (~US$70) and got ZERO attendees from it.

That said, I found out about a music festival via FB adds and bought 2 tickets @ £90 each - so it CAN work, but it's very hit and miss.

facebook has just changed the timeline feature and made it compulsory... how much do you think facebook is reliable for marketing? how can we be sure that they are not going to change the rules every couple of months?

Its never an assurance that once you posted it on fb.ads it will be popular. It still depends on the company.

I worked on almost 20 campaign on Facebook and almost 10 campaign to increase page likes and post likes. i strongly beleive that faceboook is not a accurate place for advertising specially for the people which want ot track every thing and want to know from where they are getting business or we can say clicks and leads. Facebook don't have such kind of interface which is not able to show you complete details about your campaigns you can only check clicks and amount you spent.

But if you are an online store or retail store and selling some thing online then Facebook can be a good resource for advertising to get some business.

The only way FB ads seem to work is to get visitors to your FB page for your company, once they are on your page and "like" it, you can post information on your wall.
Facebook is by far the worst advertising I have ever wasted money on. I even took a 6 part course from facebook as well.
As proof, here is 2 things, 1- ask 10 people if they have EVER clicked on a facebook ad?
2- If they were good, you would see ads for Tide, McDonalds, Burger King, Ford, etc... you do not, all you see are ads for seo, fiverr, get rich quick at home, etc.
Keep your money, even a 100$ a month with google will be way better.

I have run a couple of FB campaigns
I got some sales
I like their ads as they allow pics which Adwords does not
But the ads bids are way too high for me.
Paying 70 cents or above per click is LUDICROUs

Also I do not like the changes they made the amount of text is smaller now so I can't write a good ad.

I think the big companies are spending lots on Facebook

With all the negative posts above it seems that those people buying Facebook shares will be losing more money.

It must cost a lot to run Facebook with all the pics and videos etc.

Re Facebook pages
How are you going to get people to see your Facebook page ?

If you have a quality link Fb ads will be more helpful, if the link is not with quality it may not promote your site in ads. But promotion using fb ads are more useful.

Yes but if you make a Facebook Page

You have still got to get people to look at it.

Whereas a Facebook Ad may be seen by millions of people.
I like the fact that you can have an image in your ad.

But the clicks are too dear for me.
I did make some sales.

Facebook pages are better because you can create your own style marketing your product and company.

For me Facebook ads is really effective to promote some contest, giveaway , entertainment stuff , foods and event .
Beside that those bids per click is cheap compare to Google Ads. If your target usually at young age and entertainment. Social Media will be the best place to do your ads.
