Links seem to be the du jour mentality lately. I was just talking to Jim about this in another forum. People are going backlink crazy if you ask me and I don't think they understand that it isn't about quantity or that its important for your backlinks be of high quality sites that are consistent with the content on your site.

Not just "lately" either.

So-called SEOs have been obsessed about links ever since Google appeared on the search scene, unfortunately for them Google has never been as obsessed by links as the "SEOs" have.

The other thing they fail to see is that "link chasing" only gets "rankings" for ONE page for ONE phrase and that many other pages on their website can and do rank for many many more phrases, without any link building at all.

You could also just buy traffic by advertising, either adwords or facebook or some other platform appropriate to your audience.

Then the more you pay the more traffic you should get.

I have to say Adwords has worked for me although its expensive if you get it right it pays for its self. Articles are also very good for driving traffic to your site, just pick an interesting themed topic form your site and tell people all about it, people are interested in lots of things so give it a try or get someone to write for you on freelancer.

in forums and blogs though, make sure you don't appear as a spammer. otherwise they would ban you quickly. participate well and genuinely in the discussions and just be subtle in promoting your site.

get your site listed in all directories you can find. of course, it should be under the appropriate category or else you will get rejected.

I would suggest trying to submit one of your themes to wordpress.org
If you can get one accepted, you'll get a lot of traffic.

Links of course are good, but if your project is a commercial one (i.e. you sell some products or services) advertising can also be a good source of traffic onto your site. I mostly mean contextual ads like Google AdWords and banner ads placed on niche sites.

SEO will definitely help bring more visitors to your website. As far as increasing registrations and downloads, I recommend playing around with your download buttons and placing it in different locations. You could even put text links to download as well. Give the visitors many options to get to your "goal".

I would recommend making the buttons rounded as if they look squarish they could look like ads which could lead to less downloads and registrations. I
